Netstumbler is a must have for Windows
It's free. It's lightweight and easy to use. You can war-drive with it. I have used NetStumbler for a couple of years. There are few other offerings for Windows OS. Finding a compatible radio chipset so NetStumbler can also assess the building noise for proper SNR calculations is usually a headache, and that is why I rated it 4 out of 5 on 'ease of use'. Although fine tuning the signal reading to include building noise may not be everyones concern. It also offers a GPS interface but I have not used it so I can't say anymore about that. WirelessMonitor is another similiar application, but because it also provides connection mgt it can conflict with other wireless mgt programs on your PC so I had to uninstall it and stick with NetStumbler.

Very nice
Great little product. It helps trouble shoot what problem areas that could arise. When putting in a new wireless router, I use this product to test out the range and possible pitfalls! Though there is one problem that is more of an annoyance than a problem. It tends to lock up if you use the product for long periods of time. A simple reboot fixes that problem.

Fantastic wireless network scanner
N.S. is a great tool for troubleshooting your wireless network. It shows all wireless networks in your area, as well as some basic information about them (SSID if broadcast, security, channel, etc). GREAT tool for figuring out "what went wrong".
