Are they discontinuing the updates?
I Really Like this Browser. But Today(Saturday Dec 29 2007)I Heard Through The Grape Vine That they are Going to Discontinue The Updates For This Fine Browser as Of Feb 1 2008 and Are telling Everyone To Switch to Another Browser For Security Reasons.I Sure Hope Not.

Has been
Well Netscape has finally died. Hate to see it go, use to be a real good web browser. Sense Netscape, laid off over half their team. Netscape was sold out to a company in Canada, that did the UI for IE. Netscape is about as slow, if not slower then IE. Uses the same BHO's. It's AS sucks worse then Windows Defender. Not recommended.

Convinced
I am convinced now with Netscape. I am ( or was ) an Opera user and I must say that this new version of Netscape is very good indeed. First the ability to use both rendering engines - gecko and trident - then the security center really works and works well. As said by other reviewer, when scanning for spyware on my machine, it found things that Adware SE Plus and Spybot missed. It accepts the Roboform plug-in ( a must for myself ).Its fast enough - much faster than IE ( even with Deepnet explorer installed ) and on par with Opera. This 8.1 version does anything to do with previous versions of Netscape. Give it a try a take your own conclusions. I am convinced with this new version.

Try it! you'll like it.
While I wasn't impressed with Netscape's "revamped" browser in a previous 8.x version, having recently downloaded, installed and used (am using now) version 8.1, I can honestly say that I am quite impressed. A lot of the problems I had with the previous versions have been addressed and remedied. The security center is a very nice touch and its full scan for adware/spyware discovered things that AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy missed. Being based on Firefox, it is quite secure as well as fast. The ability to switch to Internet Explorer for certain sights and have the browser remember this eliminates all compatibility issues Netscape might have once had. All in all, I really like this browser and am using it as my default browser both at work and at home.

Excellent!!!
What a super great browser. it has the ability to switch engines from Gecko(Firefox) to trident(Internet explorer). this means all pages are viewable. on install it now gives the user the option which engine to use as default, which the previous version did not. just choose the Gecko(Firefox) engine which is more secure. I've long ditched useless Internet explorer, used opera for a while but that contains adware, used Firefox which is good, but now use Netscape as my default browser. its not a hard browser to use despite what others say. just give it a try.

Better than firefox
I gave Netscpae V.8.01 a try after Firefox V.1.0.6 confronted me with fatal errors and confused my system. Netscape did a better job. Far more reliable. No bugs. No errors. Netscape has more functionality as well like the latest news from Snapfiles in my RSS Newsbar. But to be honest: Firefox is faster downloading pages and filling tabs so the choice between the two is sometimes difficult.

Netscape is a big improvement over IE...
Netscape is a big improvement over IE. The tabbed browsing, the fully integrated email (I have three accounts at different providers that feed into it.)and the seamless switching to IE if a site demands only that browser makes this a pleasure to use. Its not hard on the eyes either. And finally, although taking more space on the HD than Firefox and Opera, it seems to have no flaws so far.

This browser is great...
I used to use Internet Explorer, but since I started using Netscape I have been finding surfing the Internet to be a much more enjoyable experience. Version 8.0 is great and definitely a further improvement on version 7. Some people complain that this browser is too big and hard to use, but I disagree and think all it's extra features are great. Highly recommend this browser!

No thanks
Thought I would download Netscape 8 to see how it performed. Last recall having used 4.8 which from memory worked quite well. Could not even install as I did not have Internet Explorer (or correct version thereof)!! From a Mozilla-based browser installation? Stick with Opera, me thinks.

Nice but too restrictive
Netscape 8.0 is a nice improvement over older versions, but it is still too big and too restrictive: It forces you to start with Netscape's search page and download manager.

Mozilla wannabe
Long-time Netscape fans should look towards Mozilla for their "anti-IE" fix. Mozilla is basically the same browser (same Gecko-based engine) minus the tons of bloat (the download size is about a THIRD that of Netscape!!).

Firefox on aol steroids
Basically integrates IM, email, and web-browsing into a single package. Still has problems with several sites that rely on IE engine specifics. This uses way too many system resources to remain in my software library. AVANT is the VERY best browser period. Firefox is a close second. IE and Netscape would tie for a distant third.

Worth the effort
Netscape is a "damn good browser", yes it's rather big compared to some of the others out there but everything works and works very well. It installs easy and most important it uninstalls easy.
