The best
To skysenshi who complained about the lack of line numbers, just look at the bottom of metapad and you will see all the needed line information. Metapad is Metagood.

The first and last word in text/html editing
MetaPad is the most beautiful piece of free software ever written. After 7 years of testing out dozens of text editors (both shareware & freeware alike), I have never come across a more stable, versatile and user-friendly program. Nowadays, I cannot imagine how I ever got along without it. MetaPad is the perfect Notepad replacement, the perfect all-purpose file viewer, and the perfect HTML/CSS/DHTML/PHP/Javascript editor. This is a must-have program for both experienced Windows users and novices.

Where are the line numbers?
If I were to use a text editor, I would've wanted to see line numbers. It's why I looked for a better alternative to Notepad in the first place. I did not see it in the settings and view options. Line numbers are pretty basic. When I saw that it didn't have line numbers I deleted it from my hard drive immediately, since I see it isn't any better than Notepad at all. If there are indeed line numbers in there, they should have made their FAQ easier to navigate.

Simply the best notepad sub
Tiny footprint. Super fast. Powerful. Rock stable -- CAN'T be crashed. I use it dozens of times daily. Highly recommended!

The notepad replacement
Small (coded in ANSI C), lean and JUST the right amount of features you should expect from a notepad replacement--nothing more, nothing less. If you want something more elaborate, get PSPad. As far as notepad replacements go, this is the one to get. The "help" file is a readme.txt file, which isn't so bad, considering how easy it is to use this app from the get go.

True replacement for notepad...
Metapad replaced Notepad for me by three of its many features viz its toolbars, recent files list and hyper link support. It has many useful features but I think this should have email link support too. Nothing to recommend becoz once you use one time you will automatically switch over to Metapad.

Good notepad replacement
"Transparent Mode" is priceless. Metapad is a good replacement for Notepad; Options like dual fonts and "Accelerator Keys" make it better but Transparent Mode really seals the deal for me. I constantly use it for taking shorthand notes. I only wish they would make the taskbar customizable.

10 times better than notepad
I've been using metapad for a year and a half and don't use notepad for anything anymore. Tons of features that doesn't slow it down at all. Microsoft should take some notes (pun intended) from this program and incorporate some of its features into notepad so we wouldn't need a replacement.
