Does the job !
Be aware that that tool scans only for a limited number of viruses and variants but it do it well. Fast but need a lot of system resources. No sufficient upgrades, so for the well-know viruses this is ok but for the rest ...

This is a must have tool!!
I was very skeptical about these different device's to use in my pc. but hay this tool found something I was not expecting. I had a nasty Virus called a Bagel in my pc and this tool found it , took it out and repaired the damage that was done. I am now up and running again and it's all due to this Macafee Avert Stinger. it truly is a great Item to have and Download. Tech Support couldnt even tell me I had a virus it took this tool to do it. MacAfee is the Best. Thank You so much..

What's the point ??
I installed this on a couple of different machines and my laptop. While it's an easy install, and it's easy to use, it's VERY slow. In almost the same time that it takes for this to check for the relatively few viruses that it does, I can run a COMPLETE sweep with either AVG or Anti-vir XP ( both of which are also free ). Its only use that I might consider would be a laptop with very limited H/D space, since it is a small program once installed.

Covers current threats very well
Homeflash seriously missed the point of McAfee's AVERT Stinger. It is a FREE scanner/repair utility that covers the most current virus/worm/trojan threats on the internet. It is updated frequently and is a lot handier than downloading a tool for each individual threat, or trying to download if you are infected. Stinger has a simple interface and gives you options for which drive to scan, archive scan, boot scan, etc. It does not require installation, just download and run. I use it as a handy secondary to my regular anti-virus as it does not conflict. As a bonus, for someone with an older computer, this will run fine on older systems, as I have run it on early Pentiums (like 133Mhz), as will AntiVir if you are looking for a full-featured anti-virus.

Only 50 viruses???
I just compared the list from my norton. Norton shows about 64000 virus list...Well, having this program is like nothing then... [Editor's note: Stinger is not designed to replace your Antivirus software. It is intended for network administrators as a quick scan for the most popular and recent worms, viruses]

Best all-in-one cleaner
Instead of getting individual cleaners from Symantec or other antivirus sites, grab Stinger. It recognizes and cleans almost 50 viruses/worms and all their variants, it is updated very frequently and it can fit on a floppy. It is especially helpful to network/system administrators, but also for non-technical computer owners. Download latest version and let it do its job.
