I like the option to log rule-deleted messages. If a rule deletes [spam] messages from the server, you might delete one that you wanted. The log doesn't show much but it gives the From and Subject headers so you know who to ask to resend their message (after you add them to your Friends whitelist). You only get 2 conditions per rule. PopTray 3.1 finally allowed several conditions per rule, so Magic starts to look a bit outdated. Like many POP3-only monitors, it doesn't support SSL so you need to sTunnel for that (which is not easy to setup). Magic has gone stale. The last update was 3-April-2004, and several problems have been reported since then, like the QuickReply bitching about an invalid parameter when calling Outlook (but you can't configure the command used to call Outlook). Magic still remains quite useful as few monitors include rules and logs.

I tested a lot of email notifiers and this one is my preferred. It uses much lesser memory than other email notifiers. You can use it to read and send emails. When sending emails with Magic Mail Monitor you can use the contact list from Outlook. When you receive a new email, Magic Mail Monitor plays a custom WAV-file and shows an animation in the system tray. You have the option to open the new email with Magic Mail Monitor or automatically start Outlook and automatically open the email in Outlook. The only disadvantage is that it only support POP3-emails.
