The best (free!!!) spam filter ever! - try it
I am a Thunderbird mail client user and some day I was tiered of all those spam mails still coming in through Thunderbird's built in filter. So I searched the Web for some spam filtering software and I found out that the freeware (!!!) K9 could be the ultimate solution... The first three days K9 had to learn a lot, but I have to say that it's an excellent student. K9 has also a filter feature and I use this only for 'Casino' related spam mail. Now these mails too stay 100% out off my Inbox! Today I use K9 100 days and the other 97 days of use I had to correct just about 10 other mails, of which K9 thought it was spam, while it was not... If you are also tiered of all those daily spam and you are looking for a good peace of software, please listen: Give it a try and after some days you will see the results and you'll be another happy K9-user, I am sure! Also (or even) when you are a Thunderbird user. Luc

Bad product
Started very nice for 3 days, but, after that hung the system, and It use a lot of CPU, even with the check to put in lower priority.

Good but abandoned by developer
K9 is one of the best anti-spam tools around. Unfortunately, there are some bugs (RETR command instead of TOP, possibility to cheating program using bad mail boundaries...). K9 isn't updated about two years and this is the reason why I give only four stars for it. If the author change his mind and update K9 it can be really one of top anti-spam tools.

Say good night, mcaffee
After struggling with McAffee far too long and getting far too poor results, I gave K9 a spin. After the first week I was getting 95% accuracy, which soon surpassed 98%. With 3 business and 3 personal mailboxes, my typical day's mail consists of 20-25 valid messages and 60-75 spam. K9's interface makes it exceptionally easy to scrap the garbage while picking out the rare few mislabeled as spam. One suggestion - add a one-click means to permanently delete the junk folder. This is one great program!

Good with outlook express message rules
Does quite a good job of filtering all but the most persistent spammers with OE. Seems to attract an inordinate number of penny stock ads which it conveniently disposes of. Mr. David Oltmann

The best one for me
I tried several freeware spam solutions and K9 wins over POPfile for its simplicity. A mail is SPAM or no spam, that's all. I have put my mail-rules so that mails that match both the DNSBL (DNS blacklist) and SPAM flag are deleted, I have a 100% result there. Mails that only score SPAM are put in a separate SPAM folder and these score above 98%. A minus point is that when the databases get too big you can't trim them anymore, but when you trim your database once a week (or even once a month) K9 should run without problems. Another minus is the (apparent) fact that the software isn't updated anymore, but who needs upgrading when it does its job?

Spam filter is totally not functioning
Spam filter is totally not functioning - Recent Emails tab is not showing any bypassing emails. It's buggy anyway. I don't see why my reinstalling twice still got the same symptom, and don't see why people rating it so high. I'm just telling the truth. If it works, I'll revise this comment at once, but I've just uninstalled it.

99.8% accurate !!!!!!!!
This a very good well written program effective clean lean n mean. If you have MS Outlook or OutLook Express you must use this or SpamPal to prevent junk choking you in box. Setting up for use with Outlook/Outlook Express is just a couple of clicks and setting up rules in the mail client to delete mail tagged as junk after that you need to train it for a couple of days, in my case it was 99.8% accurate. However I switched to using Mozilla Thunderbird as an email client as it has a built in spam filter which is pretty good I no longer need an external filter such K9 or SpamPal.

Excellent. does what it says.
Being relegated back to my old P166 I've had the painstaking process of updating security features. Although not as customizable as Spamhilator this program works very well and is roughly a tenth of the size. Also having only 32MB RAM I needed a program that wasn't a memory hog. This is definitely it. Additionally it configured itself perfectly with Outlook Express 6.0; so, setup was a breeze.

K9 spam filter
I have used this program for about 6 months. The configuration is a bit geeky, but after it's setup it works without much user intervention. It has blocked over 99 percent of my spam since then and works very well with outlook. I would reccomend the program to all outlook users.

100% for months
This is not only the best but also the most advanced program I have ever seen. Using the Whitelist, the Blacklist with around 80 regular expressions plus Bayesian filter, it produces 100% success. Keep in mind: 100% means not even one false positivie. One word to Justin4811 below: 1. Download the documentation if you need help and 2. Buy a typewriter because the computer manual will not tell you where the paper is coming out when printing. Sam

Excellent
Been using for a month with 96% accuracy. Easy to implement. Automatically changes your Outlook Express Incoming and Outgoing addresses option so you don't have to fool with it. Uses your actual emails as a database build so it takes about 2 weeks to get a good database. If you accidentally delete your "Spam" folder you must reestablish your "message rules" under Tools. Has an excellent manual you can download directly from Keir's site. Running WIN XP. Recommend for anyone who doesn't want to pay for a spam filter program. Its FREE!

Very slick setup that is easy to use
This program has a very nice interface and the setup of it went without an issue. The authors web site has very details setup instructions on it, but you dont have to follow all of the advanced items for the program to work. The stats page is very nice to see how much mail has been received, how much is spam and tons of other info. I would highly recommend this program if you are using OE and need a higher level of spam filtering that what is provided by OE.

Outstanding addition to your email program
This program is simply outstanding and should have been made a part of Outlook Express by Microsoft. It is very easy to install and configure provided the user is moderately sophisticated about computing. K9 has a slick interface which is virtually transparent, much more so than most programs of its ilk. Once properly set up K9 will learn to filter out most if not all of your spam. Once you have it properly installed, K9 is easy to use even for the digitally challenged. All you need to do is read and consider the excellent set up instructions at the developer's web site. The 30 minutes or so you might have to invest initially in understanding how the program works will ultimately make your life virtually spam free.

Love this program!
This program does exactly what I want it to do. I had no difficulties setting it up and do not understand any of the bad comments. To the people at KeirNet - keep up the great work!
