This program, is not only good at what it does, but it is also quick. It defragged my 160 GB HDD in 30 seconds. Hell lot faster then Windows sorry defragger. Diskeeper, will also do defragging on a schedule, or when user specifies. This is a sweet program.

Purchsed Diskeeper pro for workstations that were bogged down by fragmentation. Set the Invisitasking to function, runs without hindering any of the tasks, works only during idle time and does not eat into the system resources. Superlative defragger, extremely reliable.

I have used Diskeeper (Executive Software) from the very beginning and use to be their number one cheerleader. When they started charging for a maintenance agreement that was the beginning of the end to their tech support! I am now running Diskeeper Pro Premier and paying $25.90 + 12 months of Pro maintenance I could not get credit for. Every time an upgraded program needs a restart I have to reboot 2-5 times before Diskeeper will run. If you call Diskeeper Tech support you eventually get a recorded message that they no longer take calls from Home or Small Business users and are directed to use there on line form where they will respond within 48 hrs. You sign in or create an account and fill out a very detailed form about your system and problem, submit it and absolutely nothing ever comes from it!I understand from other users the main purpose of their current "UPDATES" is to allow Diskeeper to call home more often.

Super great program if you have 50 bucks for a defrag program. Highly recommended for the well healed.

While this is a very fine program, probably one of the best, it is sorely overpriced, as are all defrag programs. Ever since the early days of Norton Speedisk, many people have not fully understood fragmentation and what it actually costs in terms of stability and performance. The basic idea is that if the contents of a file are not stored in contiguous (connected) clusters on the disk, it will take longer for the system to read them, resulting in degraded performance and possibly timing-related errors. HOWEVER, if you have a drive of greater capacity than about 80GB, with a 7200 RPM rotation rate, not to mention access time down around 8ms, you are simply not going to get much of a performance or timing loss as with drives with lesser specs. This makes fifty bucks for a program that MIGHT get you a 2-3 percent performance gain a very poor value. Just a note: the "300-500 percent faster" refers to defrag time, NOT performance gain!

I have evaluated several top quality Defrag programs. I had abandoned Diskeeper Pro and switched to O&O Defrag because I got tired of diskeeper running in the background at inopportune times and hogging system resources. However with their latest release, Executive Software has incorporated a "screensaver mode". You can configure the Defrag engine to "set it and forget it" and it will only kick in when the screensaver is active. So presumably, you aren't using your computer. I've always complained to Executive Software that they need to incorporate a user interface so one can have control over the Defrag process, but they tall me their system works fine. I admit that the screensaver mode is a huge improvement, but when you're converting a 200MB WMV file to an MPG format (something that can take close to 1.5 hours) you don't want the defrag to kick in. So to prevent that I just turn off the screen saver.

I tried Diskeeper 8 Pro and had several problems. First I had two system crashes when I tried to use it. When I finally got it to run and defraged my drives, it didn't defrag effectively. Both drives were still heavily fragmented. I tried a total of 3 programs on my recently built XP Pro, P4 3.0gz system with a SATA 320GB raid-0 array for my C: drive and a 250GB IDE backup drive. I'd never defragmented either drive since building the machine. My C: drive was 47% fragemented and my D: drive was 99% fragmented. The Windows defragmenter and Diskeeper Pro failed to do the job. I even tried boot mode defrag and all other options in Diskeeper Pro. none worked. The last program, O & O Defrag, worked perfectly on the first try. It also has a cleaner interface. I'd recommend trying O & O Defrag for your XP Pro system.

This program came with a 120MB Western Digital External HD I got a couple weeks ago. After the initial defrag I set it to "Set It and Forget It" and it quietly does its job in the background.
