I have tried this little gem and I am absolutely satisfied with its performance. I wrote this review mainly to correct a misunderstanding in the previous review. Catfish can save (export) the list of folders/files as an ASCII file to any location on your HDD, not only to c-windows-temp.

I have been using Catfish for years and it works great, and appears better than the alternatives. I browsed for alternative programs because the directory export to text file is very basic. It won't create directory "booklets" for me on it's own, but it will do. Catfish will even catalogue entire hard drives so if there is a crash on a drive, you will know what was where. Anyway, Catfish is small, searches fast and is free, with no built in limitations. The Snapfiles review says there is no way of specifying the location for your catalogs. I solved this by simply copying the entire Catfish directory to a folder I always backup and I created my own shortcut to it. It runs as a standalone program, and does not require installation. You can even give someone a copy of the Catfish directory to be used as an index of your collection. The program is very basic, but it works well and fast.
