Cd coaster collection
Well, I hate to be redundant as of other posts but to be honest, I used this for a while and let's just say, I had plenty of frisbees laying around. It seemed to work when it felt like it. I have tried it since that dark day but same results, and oddly enough, seems the more you use it, the buggier it gets. It's ok for those who can't find a burning software but I would still go for many others over this. Just never worked well for me.

Very nice cd/dvd burner
The only function I have used so far is the DVD and CD burning function and CDBurnerXP does it with no problems whatsoever. I have not tried the audio function but you really should get a separate more audio specific program for that if you are a true audiophile. Overall CD XP is a nice Lite Cd burner I would recommend and I have used almost all of them out there.

Good for data, bad for creating audio cds
Handles data very well but there's a well recognized problem when creating audio CDs. The program puts HUGE audio dead space between tracks.

I tried a bunch...
My goal was to be able to burn data DVDs. I tried 4 other free CD/DVD burn programs before settling on CDBurnerXP. On my system, CDBurnerXP excelled in that: (#1) it correctly recognized the media (CD or DVD) in the drive, and could tell if it was blank or not (#2) it could correctly calculate and communicate its progress (20% done, 40% done, etc.) during a job (#3) when the job is done, the requested files are actually on the DVD, and they are the correct size, and Windows can recognize them. Hooray! And CDBurnerXP is free! The other programs all failed on my 3rd criteria, which is a pretty important one, and usually failed the others also. The only negative to CDBurnerXP is that the Microsoft "dot net framework" is required before you can install CDBurnerXP. I am running Windows XP Pro SP 2, with current patches, and using an LG CD/DVD drive identified as: HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H54N Thank you CDBurnerXP!

Slimmed down - just got better
I first discovered CDBurnerXP version 3 when looking for an alternative to Nero 5.5. The one thing I noticed was the bloat, it was a big program. According to the website version 4 is a complete re-write and is really polished, very lean and works fantastically.

Free coasters
Although it's not a difficult program to use, all I got was coasters. I tried burning several cd's several different ways. Thought maybe I had some corrupt files but that wasn't the problem. Tried slowing down the burn speed but that didn't help either. I was burning mp3's. Every time I burned a cd I got errors when I tried to burn them or if I got a good burn, when I tried to play the cd I got an error. I've uninstalled it. Freeware isn't a good value if it doesn't work. I've got enough coasters already.

Used to be perfect but ...
I have used this program sucessfully for quite some time. Recently I decided to delete a file off one of the many many data cds I made with it, and for some unknown reason, it converted all of my files to short filenames and changed one of the extensions I use. This never happened before and I have sucessfully deleted plenty of files of numerous cds in the past using the same program. I asked for advice in their forum nearly a week ago, and they never answered. If Snapfiles had a rating for Product Support, I would have to give it a zero. CDBurnerXP Pro was a flawless program for me until the day it messed up my cd, and the fact that I'm not getting support changes my impression of the software. So right now my rating isn't as good as I would have given it a week ago. It's a good program, but back up your cds first.

Compareable to name brand burners
This program is very handy and has some nice features. It also has an amazing help section. Though the way the software is made it can cause some computers to crash. If you want this software I recommend at least 512 MB of Random Access Memory (RAM) and a Pentium 4 Processor with Hyper Threading technology.

Quite the workhorse
This app has it's problems, but it does it's job well for me and has a small footprint to boot. I work on computers alot, so being able to give a disc authoring app like this one is just gravy. It's size is handy if your HDD is small, like mine, where any spare MBs is great.

If n*ro and w*ndows media player had kids...
The look and feel is very reminiscent of both Nero and Windows Media Player, but I must admit they managed to combine the best features of both programs. Interface is simple and easy, very straightforward, click-and-drag with a big, bright "burn" button at the top. It's not all that memory hungry as far as I could tell, and the burn time was much better than either Nero OR Windows Media Player.

Doesn't get any easier
One of those phenomenal free programs, that works wonderfully as your default burner. It keeps growing too, which makes it a software on the move. Make .iso files, burn CD and DVD, burn your mp3's to discs and totally back-up every important directory on your pc. Make photo CD's, with an intuitive drag and drop interface. The software allows you to save each CD it makes as a project, which is important for later reference. If you burn CD's and DVD's often, this is a fine program to consider adding to your multimedia toolbox.

It used to be great...
But I had to stop using it after it kept freezing up my system. I don't know why, but it just wouldn't work. Every time I selected what kind of disc I wanted to burn, it froze. Based on that fact, I can't fully recommend this product. When it did work, however, it was great. The interface was clean and fairly intuitive, and it was pretty easy to use.

Interface excellent - bugs need to be removed
You'll be impressed by first starting it. The interface looks very professional and - in my opinion - it's easy to use. Compared to DeepBurner (it's closest freeware opponent) it really rocks. I like the USEFUL preferences and settings. But it is full of bugs and the Uninstall of it keeps tons of registry entries left on your system. If the bugs are blasted and the proggy works well i'll use it again. But till then i keep using DeepBurner - a program with less bugs and a very old fashionned and unprofessional interface :-(. You may give CDBurnerXP a try to see how it looks and feels.

Great stuff
After reading many users reviews about this product, (both good and bad) I decided to try it. Sometimes the problems people face with programs is the combination of everything already installed and uninstalled on their machines...registries aren't ever perfectly clean. Roxio toasted one of my burners and now it's a paper weight, Nero came with my new burner but it's only 5.5 and express at that...while Nero is great...upgrade cost are, well not an option...CDBurnerXP Pro is a great all around alternative, updates are free, it's free, it encodes music as OGG(which is free)...I expect some problems but then again that is what happens when it's free...SO far it's been absolutely marvelous!!...get it, try it and be happy (and free :) pun intended)!!

Looks can be deceiving
The program looks great, but can be pretty buggy. I've written a few "coasters". I have a pretty beefy machine and run XP Home edition and this program is indeed quite a resource hog as well. I've not the install issues however. It's being developed regularly and that's great. Free or not, I can't recommend something that fails to work ALL the time. That said, go ahead and download and give it a try if you want - your mileage may vary. Also, this is my first review and I'm having to go back and change the Ratings as it won't let me post it as is (says I reviewed it too well to not recommend.) The categories here are odd. Shouldn't there be a category for "Stability or functionality"? The product looks good, has nice features and is easy to use, it just doesn't work well at times so I gave price/value a poor. After all, a new penny is shiny, but it's sill only a penny.

Nasty leftovers
Can't get rid of some stuff after uninstalling. Repeatedly wants to reinstall itself when, for example, I open mp3gain or download some prgrams. I hate stuff like this. I appreciate folks making nice programs to share with others, but really, we should be able to easily and completely uninstall this stuff if it isn't our cup of tea.

Great program!
I tried this instead of the software that came with my burner (an older hp cd-writer 9100 series) and it worked fantastic every time. it was far faster, had more options, and worked terrific. I highly recomend this FREE software to anyone who wants to burn and get on with things without 3000 options most people don't really need!! two thumbs WAY up!

Locks up my system
Version 3.0.113 has some severe problems. First, when I started to make an audio CD, I wanted to open a previous DeepBurner file in Notepad to re-do the track order, but no applications would start while CDBXPP was running. Also, it resets the Taskbar to be always visible instead of auto-hiding it. Finally, I can not get this program to shut-down "clean" without using the Windows Task Manager. Seems like it should be a good software, but needs some work. System: WinXP Pro SP1, 512 MB RAM (340 MB Free at the time), 80 GB HDD, 2.6 GHz Pentium 4.

Great free program
CDBurnerXP Pro is a great basic program for burning CDs. Although I've never used it to write a DVD, I can safely say that every CD I have created with it has worked (my brother seems to have had a few problems with audio discs, but I think he sets the burn speed too low). The functions available rival those of mid-range commercial programs. My biggest gripe is that there is no option to make a copy of a CD. But this can be solved (rather painfully, and it's the reason I gave 'Features' a medium rating) by making an ISO of the CD you're trying to copy and burning it right back onto a blank disc. Other than that, this program is one of the best ones I've ever used, and aside from that pesky lack of a copy function, it provides basically every feature I need. Very nice piece of software.

Move along, nothing to see here
I chose to install this as a replacement for Roxio, which has become a disaster in its later versions. After install, attempting to access the preferences dialog caused CDBurnerXP Pro to crash. The author told me to upgrade to solve the problem, although I was using the latest version at the time. It then refused to recognize the presence of my burner until I REINSTALLED ROXIO. After I finally got it working, it incorrectly determined that 286 Mb of files exceeded the capacity of a 700 Mb disk. Then it claimed write errors with every disk in a 50 disk spindle. It's a huge resource hog, driving available system resources down to less than 10%, and using over 90% of 384 Mb RAM. I won't even go into the confusingly similar toolbar buttons and missing (or invisible) titlebar. I have since replaced it with another software product. And there wasn't anything wrong with any of those 50 disks.

Great software but...
This software really has a professional look and feel and works well. Unfortunately, it has installation and uninstallation issues. I was unable to update it due to installation problems. I couldn't uninstall it either (it refused) and I had to figure out how to do it manually. This became very difficult because it installs a couple dozen OCX and DLL files in your system folder and a boatload of registry entries. I dislike programs that reconfigure my OS (i.e., install global OCXs and change my registry) just to work. Unfortunately, most VB programs do just that. I miss the old days of simply copying files to a directory and running them. If CDBurnerXP could reduce the number of OCX files, the number of registry entries, and then make the uninstallation work flawlessly, it would be a great program.

What's the problem, negative reviewers?
I can't believe anyone's having problems with this package. It works just fine, it has an easy to understand interface, it does what most users would want, and for Pete's sake, it's free! Maybe someone should come out to the house and burn the CD for you? I'd give any program this good an A+ and thanks to the author for a generous contribution to my home office.

Too cluttered, problems
It refused to append a multisession disc originated from another burner, in fact, it refused to append its /own/ multisession disc. There's too much stuff to look through and once you think you have it solved, you don't. This application needs much more work on usability and bugs and less on features and pretty looks.

I mainly installed this initially as a replacement of Nero so it would be free. I am mainly after burning and not ripping so much so I tried to figure out how to burn the files but it took so long to figure it out I got frustrated. Nero is so simple. You just tell it data disc and it recognizes your media and you can easily and and delete as you please. I have not tried the ripping so any reviews on that would be great! Thanks!
