3D satellite images from NASA World Wind is an open source project, that lets you zoom from satellite altitude into any place on Earth. It uses Landsat satellite imagery and Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data, as well as several data sources that provide historical and information on storms, fires, floods and other major events, as well as important landmarks with links to additional information on the web. World Wind also includes a full copy of the Blue Marble, a true-color image of the entire Earth as seen on NASA`s Earth Observatory. Other data sources include Land Sat 7, SRTM, NASA SVS, MODIS, GLOBE as well as country and US state borders and city names. NASA World Wind also provides imagery of the moon. Even though the program appears similar to Google Earth, it covers a much wider range of data sources, however it is not nearly as user-friendly and requires an in-depth look at the documentation.

Would be better 3 stars by gimpguy (Read all my 655 reviews)
Well, considering it seems there is no zoom in on land, keeps getting server errors, doesn't want to load options too quickly, it's ok. I kept getting server disconnects and try again in 2 min, however, it's just enough time to turn you off to the app when this goes on every few seconds. It would be an awesome and informative software but it has a lot of bugs to work out. For now I'll stay with Google or MS earth software. showShow review details
Looks nice but a bit of a bomb! 1 stars by kol2008 (Read all my 14 reviews)
Compared to Google Earth this one is a bit of a bomb. It uses a lot of HD space! Functionality is probably the biggest issue; it runs very slowly! There are quite a few glitz-y, flashy features, but I think most of them would be rather useless for a majority of users -- depending on your interests. Most of the views/imagery for areas of the world I have a personal interest(where I have family) substantially lack definition and clarity. showShow review details
