security add-on for IE and Firefox
McAfee SiteAdvisor is a security add-on for your Internet Explorer and Firefox browser, that helps you identify sites which are linked to spyware, adware, spam, viruses, browser-based attacks, phishing, or online fraud. The SiteAdvisor service is based on a huge database with detailed test results for millions of software products. The program integrates with search engine results from popular search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN and many others) and also adds an icon to the browser toolbar that indicates whether a site is considered safe to use (green icon) or contains potentially harmful materials (yellow or red icon). If SiteAdvisor has negative information for a site, you can review a detailed online report that shows any spam received from that site, a list of harmful downloads and link relations with other sites. We used to be a big fan of original SiteAdvisor (before McAfee bought it) but unfortunately the results have become highly unreliable, misleading and/or often outdated. We do not recommend relying on the results without taking a good look at the detailed report page. The download includes version for Internet Explorer and Firefox.
FYI: During our review, we found that this program offers to install promotional, third party components. Installation of these components is completely optional (Read our policy). : Installs a Yahoo! toolbar and changes browser settings unless you opt-out during setup.
