The program runs in the system tray and displays a pop-up list with new messages, including their subject and an excerpt of the message content. You can configure different colors for each account and also set custom colors for messages from specific senders. In addition to email notification, the program can also alert you of events that have been recorded in your Google Calendar, and it includes a basic RSS reader to monitor Google news streams and/or an RSS feed of your choice. Other features include support for sending messages through your Gmail account (without having to use the web interface), sound notifications, customizable alert settings and more.The program includes a nag screen, asking for a 3 dollar donation, which will be applied to a charity. Donating unlocks support for more than 5 Gmail accounts.

I tried a lot of Gmail notifiers before settling on Scott's. It does everything you want or need a notifier to do, is completely portable and it's FREE. What else do you need to know before trying it? showShow review details
