Safe Calculator
hide secret data in a calculator
Safe Calculator is a program that poses as a fully functional Windows calculator on the surface but in fact acts as a discreet storage container for a file with confidential information like usernames and passwords or other sensitive data. The file is stored and encrypted (ARC4) directly within the calculator executable and can only be viewed after a secret PIN was entered. Once unlocked, the interface changes into a safe mode and enables commands that allow you to view, extract or update the contained file. The available commands are documented in the help file. Safe Calculator does not require installation and can be run from a portable drive. A clever idea, but we would not recommend it for securing of critical data as it uses ARC4 (RC4), a relatively weak encryption algorithm.
Pros: An inconspicuous way to hide information
Cons: Weak encryption; limited to hide a single file
