I gave up on AVG a long time ago due to its massive size, it's failure to find bugs, and it's updating system constantly breaking down.
However, there are very few free Antivirus programs around these days (and let alone any that are good)so decided to have a go with AVG again, and was delighted to find AVG has had a total revamp, with an excellent new GUI and highly intuitively designed system controls.
This is an excellent program, a very good bug-hunter, and AVG is constantly "patrolling" your System (and Browser if you choose)and easily gets five stars from me.
If you use the awesome TinyWall (and everyone with Windows should!!!)you will not be able to update AVG unless you change the TinyWall "Mode" to "Allow Outgoing" (a piece of cake to do, just right-click on the TinyWall TaskbarTray Icon, and put your Mouse arrow on "Change Mode" to bring up the Menu; this is no hassle at all but am mystified why the exemption procedure does not work for AVG (have got a couple of other programs also that cannot be "whitelisted" and will only update when TinyWall is told to "Allow Outgoing"). Be sure to set TinyWall Mode back to "Normal Protection" as TinyWall operates at maximum effectiveness in this Mode.
Cannot recommend AVG highly enough, and thank you to the creators for making this extremely impressive program available for free.
Wish I had stayed with MacAffee. AVG runs ads multiple times daily. Quite ironic since I bought this program to protect me from such trash. Very annoying. Would not buy again ever.
I removed AVG free from my system as soon as it went ahead and deleted a very useful program I have used for years, without my permission. The program deleted was System Scheduler 3.31 created by Splinterware Software Solutions. The program was installed and running on my system. With no warning whatsoever AVG removed the program reporting to me after the fact that it had done so. This undermined all my trust in the program, regardless of any other great features it may have. I simply cannot allow an anti-virus program to come into my system and delete programs installed and used by me without giving me an option first to keep those programs. This to me is irresponsible programming, and makes AVG worthless to me.
