string search and replace tool TextCrawler is a string search and replace tool that enables you to find and/or replace text and phrases across multiple files. The program supports simple keyword searches as well as advanced queries, using regular expressions. It also provides the option to extract the matching text to a separate window, from where you can copy it for other uses (e.g. to extract email address, URLs or similar patterns). A preview window allows you to view the found matches within their context, and you can choose to exclude certain files from the replace actions. Other features include an option to save RegEx strings in a custom library, subfolder scanning, automatic file backup and a built-in Regular Expression tester. Copyright Snapfiles.com

This program is gold. Very easy to use, and powerful. I would only add that the confirm dialog should be asynchronous so that the user can examine the results before issuing the confirm. It also would be nice not to have to install it, for portable use, but that's minor. Thanks much for an excellent utility! showShow review details

I rated this a 4 prior, meant to give it a 5. This program is a great text find and replace tool for anyone who needs to replace large amounts or multiple amounts of text in documents. You can also add to or add after a block of text and it also works with batch files which is a great feature. You can choose multiple folders or file, it shows you replacements in the bottom viewer window and works fairly fast. I found this extremely useful and may keep it around for a long time. showShow review details

Comprehensive regular expression support: regex tester, regex "library" to save your frequently-used expressions. Can preserve timestamps of modified files. Quick, straightforward, good interface, gets the job done with no surprises. Hint: uncheck the "show splash screen" option ;). showShow review details
