multi-platform instant messaging Pidgin is a multi-platform instant messaging client that allows you to connect with all your buddies from a single messenger, even if they are using different networks. It supports MSN, AIM,ICQ, Yahoo, IRC, Groupwise, QQ, SILC, SIMPLE, Sametime and XMPP. You can login to multiple messenger accounts at one, allowing you to chat with your buddies on Yahoo, ICQ and MSN (for example) at the same time. Pidgin supports all of the standard messenger features including online status, file transfers, contact blocking, contact aliases, buddy groups, status notifications and more. It may not support audio and video but that is something they are working on. In the mean time it supports all the usual IM protocols including the most common MSN, Yahoo, AIM and ICQ. We use it in work for cross platform communication between Macs and Windows clients as it supports Bonjour/Rendezvous so Mac with iChat can communicate with PCs with Pidgin. We also run secure xmpp server allowing both platforms to communicate. If you want to communicate securely across the internet you can also use a plugin called 'Off the record' OTR. showShow review details
