File Management

freeCommander is a dual-panel file explorer with many additional features. In addition to the standard file management features, it can be used to compare directories, display folder sizes, synchronize folders and more. The program can also open/create ZIP and CAB files, and open RAR files, as well as search inside those archives. You can set view filters, create folder list (for printing), change file attributes, launch a command prompt, take a desktop screenshot and more.

Easy Duplicate File Finder can help you to find and delete duplicate files. The program scans selected folders or drives and produces a list of all files that have the exact same content. You can then choose to delete all of them or only selected files. Other features include exclusion of system files and folders,as well as filtering by file mask and size.

NexusFile is a dual-pane file manager that offers fast, color coded file management with many advanced features. You can easily copy or move files between folders, quickly navigate to favorite folders, change file and folder attributes, perform advanced renaming operations, manage archives and much more. Attribute Changer allows you to easily change attributes for single or multiple files and folders. Possible changes include Read-only, Hidden, System, Archive, Compress, Index as well as file/folder dates. If you need to change attributes on multiple files, you can use the provided filter options to limit the process by date, time, size and other attributes. Attribute Changer integrates into the Windows Explorer right-click menu, and the interface is available by clicking on Change Attributes.

ExamDiff is a tool for visual file comparison of two text or html files. After selecting the two files to compare, ExamDiff will display them in a split screen and highlight all the differences The program offers a variety of handy features, like copying of text from the comparison panes via drag and drop and one push re-compare function which attempts to leave the viewer s focus in the same place as before the re-compare. ExamDiff can also remember a user specified number of last compared first and second files and saves the file differences in a standard UNIX DIFF file. The interface is clean,compact and there are several options to customize the comparison process, for example by ignoring white spaces and more.

WinMerge is a visual text comparison application, that allows you to see the highlighted differences between 2 text based files. It is in particular useful for comparing source codes, and offers optional support for Visual SourceSafe syntax highlighting, customizable highlight colors and more. The program allows you to go through all found differences and then merge each instance by either replacing them on the right or the left side.

Ycopy provides a simple interface to help copy large numbers of files from one disk or folder to another. Unlike the regular Windows copy option, which stops on errors, Ycopy continues to copy to the end, and then presents you with a log file of all encountered errors (if any). The program cannot copy files that are in use, it is not intended to duplicate a drive, but just for simple copy operations.

eXpress TimeStamp Toucher is a simple utility that allows you to change the date attributes of all files in a selected folder and optional sub-folders. You can set the three date values (modified, last accessed, created) individually or use the same value for all of them.

AptDiff enables you to visually compare text and binary files. You can view the color-coded differences in two files side-by-side, and optionally merge lines from the left to the right or vice versa. The program can also export the side-by-side comparison to a nicely formatted HTML page for publishing on the web. Other features include file backup, customizable color coding, full Unicode support and more.

Intelligent Copier is an automatic file mover and copier. It offers a window that you can drag files onto, and will then copy or move them based on your settings. For example, you could choose to move all .mp3 files into the C:Music folder or copy any .doc file into your My Documents folder etc. In addition, you can automatically skip a file that is older than an existing one or to overwrite existing files. Duplicate Cleaner is an easy-to-use program that helps you to find and remove duplicate files on your computer. You can search multiple folder structures at once, and set criteria that identify the duplicates. You can choose to search for exact matches using CRC comparison or use the file name, size and date as criteria. The program offers extended support for music files, allowing you to use the ID tag information (artist, title, album) to identify duplicate tracks. The results are grouped in a list and a selection assistant enables you to quickly select files based on age, audio quality, location and other aspects.

FlexTk Express is a file management toolkit that enables you to classify and categorize files, find duplicate files and free-up storage space. You can scan drives or folders and view a report of how your storage space is utilized by file type. It automatically categorizes your files by general types (e.g. multimedia files, executables, documents etc.) and allows you to drill down further to view results for individual files types and eventually a list of all files within the group. Other features include generating of MD5, SHA1 or SHA256 signatures for files and HTML, Excel CSV and ACSII text. The free Express version is limited to 250,000 files.

Copy All To One enables you to copy (or move) all the files from a folder structure to a new folder, thereby eliminating all subfolders. The result is a single folder that contains all the files. You can choose to delete all the files from the source folder and also limit copying to a certain file extension.

digestIT 2004 allows you to easily calculate or verify the MD5 or SHA-1 hash signature for a selected file by simply right-clicking on it and selecting the digestIt option from the menu. You can calculate the hash for multiple files and optionally save the results to a file or copy them to the clipboard. To verify a file against a signature, you can paste it into the box and the program will check if it matches. MD5 and SHA-1 hashes allow to to determine whether a file has been tampered with since the original hash sum was created.

Secure Copy is a file transfer tool that enables you to do local and network transfer with resume support. If you have ever copied large amounts of data from one machine to another, you know that it can be time consuming and often slow down computer performance. ExplorerXP is a small and compact file manager that allows you to view, edit, copy, move, rename and delete files and folders using a drag-and-drop interface. Unlike the regular Windows Explorer, it displays the total size of for each folder and allows you to browse multiple folder from a tabbed interface. It also includes an option to split and merge files, and to select or delete files based on wildcards.

Folder Size is a handy shell extension that adds a `Folder Size` column to the Windows Explorer which displays - you guessed correctly - the total size of the folder in the details view. You can sort the column just like any other column, and use it to replace the standard File Size column since it also displays the size of individual files. A simple enhancement that should have probably come with Windows from the start.

File Commander helps you save time when organizing the files on your disk. If you find that you re moving, copying, or deleting the same files over and over, you can use it to create a simple command that does it for you with a single click. Just use the File Command interface (right click and select New Command) and specify the actions to take place (e.g move all images from this folder to the Img folder) and the next time you want to perform the action, all you have to do is click on the newly create command link in the folder. File commander supports copy, move and delete operations; it can process files by wildcard, confirm actions and automatically rename duplicates.

Aurionix FileUsage is a Windows Explorer add-on that adds 3 additional info columns to the Detail View. The extra columns display the total size of all files and subfolders within a given folder, the total percentage disk usage as well as the total number of files within a given folder. (You will need to restart your computer and add the new columns to the Detail View).

CSDiff is a visual file comparison tool, that allows you to easily spot differences between two different versions of a (text based) files. The program present the changes in an easy to understand display, that shows you the removed lines, as well as newly added parts. You can also compare entire folders and create HTML output from the results.

Folder Marker is a handy shell extension that enables you to quickly change folder icons to indicate a priority level or project status (high, low, done, half-done, planned etc.), or you can use it to mark a folder with a special icon or color of your choice. Simply right-click on any folder and select the icon or color to be used from the newly added menu option. Folder Marker supports single and multiple folder selections, and includes an option to restore the original icon(s).

Universal Viewer (ATViewer) is a file viewer that supports a wide range of formats. It integrates many existing viewers that are installed on your PC, and allows you to use a HEX, Text or Binary view for any unknown file types. By default, the program can open all file types supported by Internet Explorer and MS Office (if installed) as well as RTF/UTF-8 files. You can add support for additional formats via available plug-ins. Universal Viewer supports Lister plug-ins.

EZ Fld Fx compares two directory structures with sub-directories and sums up the difference in an easy to understand display. You can see which files are not present in the other folder or which ones have been added. Files can be compared based on size and date.

RoteBetaSoftware Folder Size is a simple tool that display the size of folders (and sub-folders) as bar charts. The chart display is interactive, and you can click on a bar to create an overview for the underlying folder structure, and also filter the display by file types. Does not require installation and is easy to use.

Doc Scrubber allows you to view and optionally remove the hidden information contained in Microsoft .doc files. The information contains your registered name, editing time, revision information with names of users that have edited the file and more. While this information can be very useful for internal purpose, it may not be appropriate for distribution, so this little program allows you to scrub the file(s) and output a clean copy, or overwrite the originals.

CheckFolder is a simple tool, that allows you to check if all files in a folder or drive can be read. It can be used to find corrupted files or to verify files on a CD or DVD.

Pablo Commander is a Norton Commander clone, that offers a side-by-side Explorer view. It enables you to compare the contents of two folders, drag and drop files across panes, filter the display, display the content of an FTP site and more. The program is lightweight and does not easy to use, as it uses an interface that is very similar to Windows Explorer, and also integrates the Explorer right click menu.
