E-mail Programs

Thunderbird is a full featured email program with built-in junk mail controls, message filters, address book, news groups and more. It offers a clean and easy to use (customizable) interface. Thunderbird also offers security features such as S/MIME, digital signing, message encryption, support for certificates and security devices. Other features include IMAP/POP compatibility, support for HTML mail, labels, quick search, return receipts, LDAP address completion, import tools and more.

Koma-Mail is a simple, portable email client, that can be run standalone from a USB drive. It allows you to send and receive email from your POP3/IMAP account. The program supports SSL and APOP and contains options to block scripts, ActiveX and HTML content for increased security. It also includes a basic spam filter option and can be used with multiple accounts and multiple users. Koma-Mail can import/export email messages and contacts, maintains an encrypted database and even includes a simple RSS feed reader.

i.Scribe is a remarkably compact email program with an easy to use interface and some excellent features, including a split view of folders and items, signatures, drag and drop, preview and more. The program does not require an install and can be run from a floppy disk or USB stick, if needed. It allows you to manage email accounts, check your mail periodically, preview mail on the server, color code your messages, preview them on the server and more. i.Scribe can import existing mail from Outlook Express, Netscape, Outlook and Unix MBOX. Additional features include plug-in support, proxy support, ESMTP authentication, message templates, Bayesian spam filter and more. A very capable little email program with a ton of features, great as an alternative to the big guys, or as mobile solution on a USB drive.

SMTP Mail Sender is a simple application that allows you to quickly send email messages through an SMTP server of your choice without the need to install a full featured email application. The program supports message attachments and SSL for secure connections. SMTP Mail Sender is able to run from a USB thumb drive, so you can send emails from anywhere with a PC and Internet access.

Popcorn is an ultra-lightweight POP3/SMTP e-mail client, that allows you to read mail from a POP3 server directly, without downloading it to a local mailbox on your PC (although you can save mail messages to disk if you want to). This makes it ideal for "on the road" email access, and for scanning, reading and sending mail over slow internet connections. Popcorn supports multiple user profiles and fits on a floppy disk. The user profiles and account information is NOT saved in the local registry, but in a small, portable .INI-file that accompanies the application, enabling you to easily move between locations. Using Popcorn you can check and send mail from anywhere as long as you have an Internet connection. You can also delete spam, old messages or see if a message has attachments without downloading the messages from the server first. It is perfect for cleaning up and administering multiple POP3 accounts.

Pegasus Mail is a powerful mail program that can be used in a very wide range of environments, and which is especially well-suited to Internet mail. The program has tons of features, including multiple signatures, HTML support, mailing lists, address books, reply templates and many more. Pegasus Mail has special support for Novell NetWare local area networks and operates in that environment with almost no maintenance and with a number of extra capabilities.

Vista NetMail is an email client program with built-in anti-spam and filtering capabilities. It retrieves messages from the server and can process them without actually downloading the mail to your computer. You can preview messages, deleted selected items, apply filters and more. Selected messages can then be downloaded and are stored in the Netmail database. The program can be used as your only email client or as a supplement for message previewing and filtering.

Espresso is a permissions-based email client, that is designed to filter all unwanted mail from your Inbox by only allowing messages from known senders. All other emails are moved to a Junk folder for further review. The program integrates a challenge/response system that can automatically send and approval request to unknown senders, which allows them to verify their intend and be added to your list of approved senders. Messages can be approved based on the sender`s address, domain and also keyword in the subject or body of the message. If you have a limited range of people that you are in contact with, this type of spam control can be very effective, as it does not rely on filtering, but only allows the mail from the people or sites that you want to communicate with. You can always review the filtered messages to make sure you did not overlook any important message, and the program can automatically delete them after X days. Qm - The Quick Mailer is a tiny program for sending quick e-mail messages without having to load your main email client program. It features MIME attachment support, multiple authentication methods, SMTP logging and more. Standalone program, no install, can run from a USB drive.
