Marble Portable

Marble Portable by KDE Education Project

Virtual Globe and World Atlas Marble is a Virtual Globe and World Atlas that you can use to learn more about Earth. It starts out with a virtual globe from where you can pan and zoom around to look up places and roads. You can choose from different map style, including Atlas, Satellite (terrain), Open Street Map, Earth at Night and others. You can type in an address to find the location on the map, get directions to/from selected points, measure distances between locations, view Wikipedia article for selected cities/countries, set bookmarks, export routes to KML format, save map views as JPG images, and more. Marble is in many ways similar to Google Earth but lacks the detailed satellite maps, street views and some other fancy features. It makes up for this with fast loading maps (that can be downloaded for offline viewing) and an Open Source infrastructure. In addition, Marble is portable and does not require OpenGL. Note: Unlike Google Earth, which lets you simply zoom down to street level, Marble uses multiple map packs. The default (Atlas) only allows you zoom down to city level - in order to view street level maps, you'll need to switch the Map View to OpenStreetMap.
