VueMinder Calendar

This shows you how often VueMinder Calendar was updated with us over the past few months. Whenever available, we also include additional information for each update (new features, changes etc.).

version 5.5.1 - posted on Nov 16, 2009

Added the ability to re-order calendar groups via drag-and-drop.
Improved the creation of new events, so when an event is added to a hidden calendar, or assigned to a filtered priority, location or category, the filter is automatically removed to make the newly created event visible.
Improved the Calendar Properties window to allow group assignment to be viewed or modified.
Improved the Calendar List, so the expanded/collapsed state of calendar groups is saved and restored when the program is restarted.
Corrected problems with events sometimes not appearing when they should be. They were being incorrectly filtered.
Corrected the apearance of all-day events in the Day and Week views, when displaying events by category, priority, or location.
Corrected the calendar list so when a new calendar is created while a group is selected, the new calendar gets added to the selected group instead of the `My Calendars` group.
Corrected a problem with calendar group assignments sometimes not being saved or restored when the program is restarted.

Added the ability to group calendars in the Calendar List.
Added the ability to prioritize events.
Added tabs to the Calendar Items (formerly Calendar List) area of the main window. These tabs can be used to dynamically switch how events are presented and filtered in the Calendar View and Event List. You can view and filter events by calendar, category, priority, and location. The visual appearance of these types can be customized using the Appearance Toolbar or Tools menu options. You can also combine filtering using these various types, or reset the filter using an X button at the bottom of the Calendar Items area. The display will correspond with whichever tab in the Calendar Items area is currently active.

Added the ability to define a list of event locations.
Added the ability to specify an optional report title when printing. The title will appear at the top of every page. If no title is desired, the title text can be set blank.
Added the ability to associate events, or entire calendars, to a selected category or priority.
Added tooltips to the Calendar List and other items in the Calendar Items window area.
Added the ability to display a counter for yearly events
Added the ability to define contacts using a new `Contacts` menu option, accessed from the Tools menu.

version 5.4.0 - posted on Oct 15, 2009

Added real-time calendar sharing over a local network. To share calendars in real-time, set the update frequency to `Automatically` when subscribing or sharing a calendars over a local network.
Added notification of conflicting events. There are two types of notifications - a simple label in the Event Editor window and a popup warning message. These can both be enabled or disabled, independently for each calendar via new `Event Conflict Handling` settings in the Calendar Properties window.
Added a `Calendar View` print style. This will print the calendar exactly as displayed in the Day/Week/Month View, including whatever number of days or weeks are selected for display.
Added a `Reset Filter` option to the Event List s `Filter` button s menu. This option will remove filters on all columns.
Added a `Random` button to the apperance properties for calendars and events. This button can be used to quickly generate a unique appearance.
Improved the Event List to allow multiple events to be selected at one time. This can be done by Shift-clicking rows, Ctrl-clicking rows, or dragging row selection with the mouse. You can also select all listed items using a right-click menu option or Ctrl+A. Selected rows will have a green arrow.
Improved the Event List and Calendar View so multiple selected events can be deleted, toggled as completed, or re-assigned to a different calendar in a single operation.
Improved the Event List performance, especially when a large number of events are displayed. Performance should be much more responsive now.
Improved handling of incorrectly entered email addresses to return a more user-friendly error message.
Corrected the Day/Week/Month view so right-clicking a selected event, when multiple other events are selected, will not clear the other selections.
Corrected the Event List to properly refresh the reminder status for tasks, when task reminders are dismissed, snoozed, or sent via email/SMS.
Corrected a problem where the popup reminder window is sometimes initially displayed behind the main VueMinder Calendar window.
Corrected the Appearance Toolbar to be disabled when a task is selected in the Day/Week/Month view.

Corrected the display of date numbers in the desktop calendar when the option to use advanced date number colors has been selected and some date colors are set to black.

Corrected an intermittent problem where the events would sometimes revert to their previous date after being dragged and dropped to a new date.
Corrected an error when setting a text message reminder recipient s phone number, if a mobile carrier for that recipient isn t available or selected.

Added the ability to set the number of times that sound or video playback should repeat in a popup reminder.
Added an advanced appearance option that allows the date color for each day of the week to be customized.
Corrected problems with the global hotkey option.
Corrected the backup option to prompt for a backup location if the setting to perform automatic backups has been enabled but a path hasn t been specified when the Options window is closed.
Corrected a problem when importing from Excel. The event in the first row was not being imported.
Corrected the destination columns when exporting to Excel. The exported data was incorrectly shifted by 1 column.
Corrected a problem with the displayed date navigation label not being updated when an event is selected from the Event List and the calendar view jumps to a different date range.
Corrected a problem when dismissing or snoozing a task reminder while event reminders are also displayed in the same popup reminder window.

Added an option to color dates in the Month Navigation Pane using event appearances. Dates that have events will be colored based on the first event on the day. This can be disabled via an Appearance Option.
Added an option to color the date numbers of weekends in the Month Navigation Pane and Calendar View. The default color is red, but this can be changed (or disabled) via an Appearance Option.
Added an option to control whether VueMinder Calendar runs at Windows startup.
Added an option to fully exit the program when the main window is closed, rather than minimizing to the task tray.
Added an option to customize the global hotkey used to restore the VueMinder Calendar window after it has been minimized.
Added more date range options, such as `The next 90 days` and `This calendar year`. These additional options are available in the Event List, when exporting to Excel, and when printing.
Added two more print styles for the Weekly layout.
Added a `Print Preview` command to the File menu.
Improved performance of calendar importing and exporting to Excel and Outlook. Most computers should see a dramatic reduction in the time required to import or export.
Improved exporting to Excel to show the generated workbook when the export completes. This also corrects a problem on some computers with the export appearing to hang.
Improved importing from Excel to support the column names Microsoft Outlook generates when exporting to a text file.
Improved the default calendar appearances used when new calendars are created. Default appearances now use earth tones, which tend to be more aesthetically pleasing.
Corrected a problem with reminders not being shown for calendars that are not visible.
Corrected an problem when `Go to Date` is commanded.
Corrected a problem with the `New Calendar` menu option sometimes disappearing after a new calendar is created.
Corrected display problems in the Recent Reminders window when using several of the non-default appearance themes.

Added the ability to assign reminders to tasks. Popup reminders, desktop alerts, email reminders, and SMS text message reminders can be used.
Added the ability to display the event description in the popup reminder window. Any links contained in the description will also be clickable from the reminder window.
Added a Recent Reminders window, which shows the status of recently displayed, snoozed, or sent reminders, and allows those reminders to be immediately redisplayed or sent again.
Added a global hotkey (Ctrl+Shift+V) to make the VueMinder Calendar window reappear after having been minimized to the task tray.
Added a tri-fold print layout style.
Added a Delete button to the Desktop Calendar window, allowing the selected event or task to be deleted.
Added a `New Task` option to the task tray icon s right-click menu, allowing tasks to be created without displaying the main window.
Added the ability to not to use SSL when subscribing or publishing calendars. SSL will be used by default, but can be disabled if desired.
Improved the Task Editor window to include a full-featured text editor for entering task details. Also added the ability to delete a task from the Task Editor window.
Improved subscribed calendars to allow reminders to be set for events, and not overwritten when the subscription is updated. Also, event completion status will now be preserved.
Improved calendar importing from ICS files. If existing events are present in the destination calendar, a new window will appear allowing selection the existing events that should be deleted or overwritten, if any. Previously, any existing events would be deleted or overwritten.
Improved tasks to display in the appropriate time slot in the Day and Week views.
Improved the event and task text editor to allow file links to be added by dragging and dropping files into the text editor.
Improved the popup reminder window to preserve column widths and order.
Improved popup reminders containing web pages to also allow the option of playing sound or music.
Improved to View menu to make it more consistent by renaming the `List` option to `Event List`, and repositioning the option to be with the other window area options, such as `Task List`.
Improved the docking indicator when dragging areas of the main window or desktop calendar. The new indicator is more intuitive.
Corrected a problem with menu and toolbar customizations sometimes not being saved when Windows is shutdown while VueMinder is running in the background.
Corrected the Task List to create a new task when a blank area of the list is clicked.
Corrected problems that could sometimes appear when starting VueMinder Calendar: `Configuration system failed to initialize`, `Call was canceled by the message filter`, `Object reference not set to an instance of an object`, or `Empty path name is not legal`.
Corrected problems with reminders for recurring events sometimes reappearing after having been dismissed, or sometimes not appearing when expected.
Corrected a problem when dismissing a reminder for an event in a recurring series that was copied and pasted from another recurring series.
Corrected the week numbers shown in the Month Navigation Pane. Previously, only the first number was displayed.
Corrected the indication of overdue tasks in the Calendar View for tasks that have associated starting times.
Corrected saving of tasks if the data location is changed and no task changes are made before the program is closed.

Corrected the reminder status to indicate a reminder will not be displayed if an event or task is marked completed before the reminder was displayed, and the option to suppress reminders for completed events/tasks is enabled.

Added a new appearance theme that shows full event descriptions within the event blocks in the Day and Week views. The new theme is named LargeDatesWithDescriptions.isl .

Improved application load times and runtime performance. The application should load approximately 50-60% faster than previously. Delays when opening the Event Editor or Calendar Property windows should also be reduced.

Improved the tooltips displayed in the Event List. The tooltips now match the tooltips shown in the Calendar View, and display correctly on multi-monitor setups.

Improved the Details pane to allow the Event Editor to be opened for the displayed event by clicking its name. A similar improvement has also been made for tasks.

Improved the handling of customized menus and toolbars. Updates after version 5.1.1 will no longer reset user menu customizations, unless a new menu options are added.

Improved error handling when insertion of a file link into the event description editor fails.

Corrected tooltips containing formatted text to not re-appear when the cursor is moved over an empty area of the Calendar View. Corrected printing of date ranges. The ranges were not being used previously for the Day, Week, Month, and Year print styles. Corrected a problem sending SMS reminders if the reminder subject or description contains extended (non-US) characters.

Added a new `Details` pane to the main window. This pane shows details of the currently selected event or task. Events with descriptions containing links to files or websites can have those links clicked from the Details pane.

Added a full-featured text editor to the Description tab of the Event Editor. Text formatting, pictures, links to web pages or local files, and much more can be entered to event descriptions using this new text editor.

Added a task list to the desktop calendar.

Added buttons to the desktop calendar for creating events and tasks, and for opening the currently selected event or task.

Added a status bar to the desktop calendar.

Improved the event location field on the Event Editor window to show a drop-down list of recently entered location values.

Corrected a problem with service contract keys not being correctly recognized in countries that use a short date format that doesn t match what is used in the United States.

Corrected a problem with the backup feature, where it was backing up calendar data to the autosave file instead of to the specified backup path.

Corrected a problem when shutting down Windows. A message of `CSC.exe application error` was appearing on some computers. Due to this error, some data was not being properly saved prior to Windows shutdown.

Corrected a problem where tasks weren t correctly displaying in the calendar view after restoring from a previous backup.

Corrected a problem with all-day events sometimes appearing on the previous day when a calendar is published and viewed in another application.

Corrected the default publishing, subscription, and Outlook sync settings to not exclude events older than 30 days.

Corrected Outlook sync timing problems that could sometimes result in a deleted event reappearing in VueMinder after an Outlook sync is performed.

Corrected problems with the text encoding when publishing events containing international character symbols. Previously, these special characters would appear as `?` when the published calendar was viewed on the web.

Corrected an error message that was displayed when clicking on events in the Week View, when the Week View was set to display work days only.

Corrected display refresh issues when the Week View was set to show work days and a different week was selected.

Corrected the Ctrl+T shortcut, which had been assigned for both creating a new task and for going to the current date. The shortcut for creating a new task is now Ctrl+Shift+T.

Corrected a problem with event colors not being pasted when using Ctrl+V.

Corrected a problem with the Event Editor window moving location immediately after opening.

Corrected a problem with the button locations on the popup reminder window.

Corrected saving of window layout files and event list filter files to use default extensions that allow the files to be distinguished from each other. Previously, both files used a default extension of xml.

Added a semi-transparent calendar to the Windows desktop. Its size, position, and transparency can be adjusted. It can also be hidden by toggling the `Desktop Calendar` option in the View menu.
Added an option to include event appearances when exporting to Excel. Improved the event description editor to allow links to be clicked when the event description is formatted as HTML.
Corrected a problem when attempting to import on a computer where Outlook has been installed but not configured with a profile for the current user.
Corrected a problem with week numbers being off by 1 for some years.
Corrected iCalendar importing of events that do not have a duration or ending time specified.

Improved synchronization of reminders when publishing. Reminders that have been snoozed on the publishing computer will now have the same snooze status on the subscribing computer, unless the subscriber previously snoozed or dismissed the reminder.
Improved the splash screen to show random tips and tricks for getting the most out of VueMinder.
Improved the tooltips for events in the calendar view. The tooltips will no longer incorrectly show times for all-day events. The tooltips will also now include reminder status and thumbnails for any pictures that have been assigned to the reminder, if applicable.
Improved the main window to restore its previous size and location when VueMinder is started.

Improved the splash screen to no longer be displayed above all other windows.

Added the ability to customize where each pane of the main window is docked. Docking settings and window pane sizes will also now be preserved when installing updates.
Added a column to the event list to display event reminder status, such as when a snoozed reminder will be displayed again, whether a reminder was dismissed, or when the reminder was sent via email or SMS.
Added the ability to download and install the help documentation for offline viewing. VueMinder will detect if offline help has been installed before attempting to display the online help.
Improved all drop-down lists to reduce the amount of scrolling required.
Corrected the `Due In` times displayed in the Popup Reminder window to refresh automatically, including a second-by-second countdown when an event is due in less than a minute.
Corrected the movement of the hour and minute hands of the Clock.
Corrected the default snooze length for new reminders to match the most recently used snooze length. Previously, the snooze length was always defaulting to 5 minutes for new reminders.

Added integration with Microsoft Outlook. Calendars can be imported/exported to Outlook and automatically synchronized.
Added menu options to show or hide all calendars as a single operation.
Added an option to display the month and day on each date displayed in the Month view. This can be toggled from the Month button drop-down menu.

Added an HTML event description preview in the Event Editor, as the description would appear in an email reminder. Improved the Event Editor window to allow it to be maximized. It will also remember its size and location when closed and reopened. Corrected a problem sending an email reminder when the Send Now button in the Event Editor is clicked for a reminder that was previously sent.

Added an analog clock to the main window. This is off by default, but can be turned on by selecting the Clock option from the View menu.
