  • Added support for IMAP mailservers.
    AOL checking fixed and much faster now.
    Added an initial checking delay per account, preventing`flood-blocks` from your ISP when you have multipleemail accounts on the same ISP.
    You can now specify per account what PEN should openwhen clicking the `Open` button: your default mail client,a website, or an application.
    Some bugs with Yahoo checking fixed.
    PEN sometimes lost its registration information. This hasbeen fixed.
    Many other small improvements and bug fixes.

    PEN can now download and update itself when a new version is available. This eliminates having to download a complete setup if a patch is available.
    Mail.com had changed their login procedure causing PEN to generate an `Unexpected Webpage Contents` error. This has been fixed.
    Several small enhancements.

    You can now toggle between three `View Modes` when viewing POP3 mails:
    PEN now also uses header information for junk-mail detection.
    The Email Preview Window now displays the size of the mail.
    The Email Preview Window now indicates when PEN found an attachment in amail (POP3 only).
    Fixed a bug in the junk-mail filters. When nothing was entered in the`Exceptions` box, PEN would never mark a mail as Junk.
    Fixed a bug where PEN had difficulties checking mail for Yahoo and Lycos.
    Fixed a bug where PEN would never display ToolTips when hovering overbuttons.

  • This is a major update!
    PEN now has simple Junk-mail detection. PEN can markincoming mail as `Junk` if it finds the words/phrasesyou have set in the `Junk-mail filters`. It can evenfind words/phrases that were misspelled on purpose tocircumvent spam-filters (like `mortg@ge` or `V!@gra`).
    The `Email View Window` can now be password-protected
    This means that PEN still notifies you of incoming mail,but that viewing mail requires a password (if set under`Preferences`).
    You can now choose between different pop-up styles, oreven create your own!
    PEN can synchronize your system s clock with the PENAtom-time server whenever PEN is started (if set under`Preferences`).
    You can now choose between 12-hour am/pm time format, or24-hour time format.
    Lots and lots of cosmetic changes.

  • PEN now saves program data in the user s `My Documents` folder.
    PEN now also decodes Quoted Printable and Base64 `From:` fields.
    Removed a few bugs from both `Quoted Printable` and `Base64` decoding.
    PEN doesnt croak on huge Subject lines anymore.
    Sometimes PEN seemed to hang while retrieving email subjects. It didn t actually hang, but the text `Retrieving` did not disappear, and the subject and contents of the email were never retrieved. This has been fixed.
    While in the Email View Window, pressing `Ctrl-A` now selects *all
    emails, while pressing `Del` deletes all selected emails.
    PEN now correctly retrieves Yahoo email if the Yahoo inbox contains more than 25 emails.
    Locally stored passwords are now encrypted.
    Some people reported an `Unknown Error` when checking their Hotmail accounts. This was due to a language problem and has now been fixed.
    There was still a small bug in the Hotmail mail handler causing PEN to be unable to delete Hotmail email from Hotmail itself (like from `Hotmail Staff`). This has been fixed.
    PEN is now able to decode `Base64` and `Quoted Printable` subject headers.
    PEN didn t retrieve the Yahoo `From` field properly. This has been fixed.
    Fixed the date sort routine in the Mail Preview Window.
    In the Mail Preview Window, an email that arrived today is now displayed with the text `Today` (followed by the time) instead of only displaying the time.

  • Both Hotmail and MSN had changed the way they handled email, causing PEN to be unable to retrieve email from these servers. PEN has been changed to reflect these changes and is able to retrieve email from these servers again.
    On some rare occasions, PEN gave an `Invalid connection state` error. This has been fixed.
    In the Email Preview Window, PEN always said it was displaying the first 20 lines
    even if it was actually set to a higher number. This has been corrected.
    If a POP3 server did not respond, PEN would hang. Now a timeout is generated if the POP3 server still hasn t responded after 1 minute.
    Sometimes a POP3 message ID contained characters that confused PEN causing it to be unable to display the email. This has been fixed.
    PEN would sometimes hang on some malformed email contents. This has been fixed.

    This has been fixed.
    When PEN detects a new version, it will now stopblinking the `U` over the SysTray icon once youhave read the new version s description (under`Help` -> `PEN x.x-x Available!`).
    Email Preview Window Changes:
    You can now sort emails by clicking on a columnheader (Subject, From and Date).
    In addition to the `new mail` icon, PEN nowdisplays new mail in BOLD text.
    New emails are always displayed first.

  • Some special characters in Hotmail and MSN-messages could cause PEN to be unable to retrieve all messages. This has been fixed in v1.1-6.
    v1.1-6 now has an extensive Help system. Either choose `Contents...` from the Help menu, or press F1 anywhere in the program.

  • In v1.1-4, a bug in one of the used Windows API libraries caused PEN to sometimes delete more mails than were selected. This is a bug in Windows, *not
    in PEN. This bug was introduced in v1.1-4 (due to some new code) and is therefore the only version affected by this bug. If you are using v1.1-4 then v1.1-5 is a *critical
    update since we ve now programmed around this bug.
    What s new in v1.1-5
    v1.1-5 now automatically checks for updates. When an updated version of PEN is available, the Systray Icon will blink a `U`, the status bar of the main window will display the text `PEN Update Available!`, and a menu option will appear under `Help`. Choosing this menu option will display information about the new version available. To download the new version, all you need to do is click the `Get It!` button.

  • Hotmail and MSN changed the way they handle the contents of an email. This caused PEN to sometimes incorrectly read the body of an email. Version 1.1-4 now reads the contents correctly.

  • Lycos had changed a few things with their webbased email, causing PEN to be unable to retrieve email. These changes have now been incorporated in PEN as well. PEN is now able again to retrieve Lycos email.
