CITA RSS AggregatorThis shows you how often CITA RSS Aggregator was updated with us over the past few months. Whenever available, we also include additional information for each update (new features, changes etc.).
version 2.7 - posted on Jul 16, 2007
- Version 2.7 provides the following improvements:
- The Aggregator automatically switches the font used in most displays to Segoe UI - the primary Vista font - if it detects it is running under Vista.
- The first time you run the Aggregator under Vista it will offer to switch the alert styles to a profile specially designed for use with Vista.
- You can now specify that alerts should appear indented from the edge of the screen rather than be shown flush with it.
- Alerts shown under Vista appear with a resizable border. You can drag them out of the way if you want to.
- You can opt to not show the resizable border when using Vista if you prefer the existing border style.
- When using the options window to change colours, you can now use the full palette of colours available on your PC.
- We relaxed the validity tests in the Aggregator so that - although it is required by the specification - the Aggregator processes feeds that are missing the channel s link element.
- You can use new fields in the Aggregator s general settings (click Tools, Options from the main window) to set a download time period. The Aggregator will start downloads only between the times you specify.
- The downloads summary has been updated so it shows you the time a download is due to start if it is being held back only by your specified time interval.
- Refreshing the download screen now takes significantly less time than before.
- If you decided not to use the Aggregator s internal (Internet Explorer) browser in previous versions, you sacrificed the ability to automatically track items as you read them. Automatic tracking is now implemented for both browser options.
- We have made cosmetic changes to some of the menus shown when right-clicking channels and items to make them easier to understand.
- We fixed an obscure bug that can cause the Aggregator to crash when closing the Main window.
- This version corrects a bug that caused the Aggregator to crash when you went to the settings window having logged on without a user id to Windows 95 or 98.
- We have also modified the way the Aggregator interacts with the Subscription utility to reduce the risk of a programming loop.
version 2.5 - posted on Apr 02, 2007
- These are the highlights of version 2.5:
Changes to the way we store and work with files to ensure the Aggregator can be used by Windows Vista and XP users without requiring Administrator access.
You can now look for, and remove, adverts that start with given text and continue to the end of the item.
We have made several improvements to the way we handle enclosures and downloaded files.
We have made several improvements to the way tooltips are shown if you hover your mouse over a feed icon.
Pressing your Delete key when an item is selected in a tree view or the downloads summary screen ignores an item or drops a download.
Between version 2.4 and 2.5 of the Aggregator we made an interim release of the RSS Subcription utility to provide better integration with FireFox 2. This version is included automatically when you update to version 2.5 of the Aggregator.
version 2.4 - posted on May 30, 2006
- We now use a CSS stylesheet to display key pages so you can change the appearance of these pages to suit your tastes.
Subscribing to a feed page is even easier.
The Aggregator now detects content:encoded elements in feeds - that means you get to see more information without having to visit the feed page.
You can now specify a download directory for each channel that overrides the general download directory.
New subscribe option in preparation for version 2.0 of FireFox. Plus several other functionality, reliability and resilience enhancements.
version 2.3 - posted on Nov 15, 2005

If you use a small number of feeds, however, you can continue to see a simple feed list. We have also added code to detect and remove potentially malicious programming elements from feeds.

Various bug fixes and minor enhancements
version 1.8 - posted on Jan 28, 2005
- The Aggregator now includes a feed subscription utility that provides a simpler mechanism for adding new feeds to the Aggregator. We have implemented both the new standards: the feed:// mechanism and USM.
This version includes the following enhancements:
When adding channels or downloading enclosures, the Aggregator automatically corrects some incomplete internet addresses.
In the main window, right clicking a download that is waiting for a manual download request now shows a Queue this download option.
When closing the main window, the prompt that asks you if you want to ignore un-read items now has a button to cancel the close request.
When you decide to ignore un-read items, the Aggregator automatically closes the alert window if it is open.
When showing weather, the Aggregator detects if the feed references an invalid weather icon and shows the NA icon instead.
When using an external browser in preference to the Aggregator s built-in one, you can now make the main window much smaller so it need not overlap the browser window.
This version includes the following bug fixes:
The Aggregator correctly interprets relative URLs when auto-detecting feeds linked from web pages
The weather display no longer crashes if you are using an external browser in preference to the Aggregator s built-in one.
The Aggregator no longer crashes if you try to open a download that is not recognised by Windows. It displays a message explaining the problem instead.
We fixed a bug that allowed feeds to be read in intervals less than 60 minutes in some situations.
version 1.7 - posted on Jan 08, 2005
- Main changes in version 1.7 are:
Internal browser now flags if you browse to a page containing a link to an RSS feed
clicking the flag adds the feed(s) automatically.
Supports feeds compressed using industry-standard gzip and deflate methods.
Automatically stops looking for feed updates if you leave your PC inactive (can be overridden if appropriate).
Honours minimum update intervals requested by the small number of feed suppliers that do this.
version 1.6 - posted on Dec 07, 2004
- Version 1.6 now supports downloading of RSS enclosures (Podcasts). By default, the Aggregator simply shows the presence of enclosures on channel summaries and provides a link to them on the feed server. If you activate the download facility via the Aggregator options screen you will see additional features including:
The ability to download enclosures to your PC automatically, manually or semi-manually.
New alert screens that inform you that a new download is available and that provide options to open, move or copy downloaded files.
An entirely new download summary screen that describes all currently available enclosures and their download status. The screen also shows progress information if a download is in progress.
Support for automatically downloading BitTorrent files.
Version 1.6 also contains a number of useful enhancements and a couple of bug fixes. See accompanying help text for more detail of what has changed.
