XLQ delivers live and historic worldwide stock market data for use in Microsoft Excel via formulas, or also standalone directly in the XLQ interface. The data is automatically updated as the market changes, allowing you to track the market, maintain a portfolio or perform personalized in-depth stock analysis directly from the familiar Excel interface. Features include more than 150 Excel formulas for the latest trade data including last price company name, exchange name, bid, ask, size, open etc. as well as daily, weekly and monthly historical stock data. Data can also be retrieved for any date in the past. XLQ can retrieve data from multiple sources (currently Yahoo, MSN and Intraday). The program runs in the system tray from where it indicates the current status and allows you to add/delete new stock symbols. XLQ can be used without Excel, but depends on it for full functionality.

CoolTick is a small desktop stock ticker that allows you to keep track of your favorite stock symbols. You can customize the appearance and add as many stock symbols as you want. The display options include price, open, close, high, low, volume, time, and change. In addition, the program includes an online portfolio display that allows you to manage your number of shares purchased, purchase price and overall gain or loss. The trial version is fully functional but limited to two symbols.

The program is designed to be easy to use and can also updated stock prices automatically via the internet, by push of a button. Amateur Invest comes loaded with stock data for about 100 companies, just to get you started. It`s interface is a little awkward, requires a minimum of 800x600 resolution and the program does not work with proxy servers.

AlertTAPE is a desktop stock ticker that provides (delayed) quotes from Yahoo for all your favorite stocks. It runs along the top of your screen and clicking on a symbol will launch the associated page on the Yahoo Finance site. The program includes an option to set high or low price alerts for selected symbols, as well as support for email notification. Other features include a selection of ticker skins, news integration and price history.

Stock Ticker Application Bar is a small tool for continuous retrieval of stock quotes through the Internet. It is an application bar that resides at the top or the bottom of your screen and displays 20 minutes delayed quotes of predefined list of stock and indices symbols in a form of a scrolling message. NewsAloud is a personal news agent that finds the stories you want and then reads them aloud using an artificial voice. The program offers various categories of (Yahoo) news to choose from and you can select the ones that interest you. Once the news stories are retrieved you can select to listen to selected items, export them to WAV or MP3 format or mark them for later. NewsAloud also allows you to simply launch the associated news web site or view the article in plain text format. NewsAloud supports ATT&T Natural Voices, which sound much better than the (included) Microsoft voices, however they must be purchase separately.
