File Management

SE-Explorer is a simple dual-pane file manager that offers tabs for folder browsing as well as several built-in viewers including XML structure view, image browsing, integrated audio playback with playlist support, hex view and more. The program also includes a file search feature that is similar to the old file search under Windows XP.

FlexTk Express is a file management toolkit that enables you to classify and categorize files, find duplicate files and free-up storage space. You can scan drives or folders and view a report of how your storage space is utilized by file type. It automatically categorizes your files by general types (e.g. multimedia files, executables, documents etc.) and allows you to drill down further to view results for individual files types and eventually a list of all files within the group. Other features include generating of MD5, SHA1 or SHA256 signatures for files and HTML, Excel CSV and ACSII text. The free Express version is limited to 250,000 files.

Universal Viewer (ATViewer) is a file viewer that supports a wide range of formats. It integrates many existing viewers that are installed on your PC, and allows you to use a HEX, Text or Binary view for any unknown file types. By default, the program can open all file types supported by Internet Explorer and MS Office (if installed) as well as RTF/UTF-8 files. You can add support for additional formats via available plug-ins. Universal Viewer supports Lister plug-ins.

freeCommander is a dual-panel file explorer with many additional features. In addition to the standard file management features, it can be used to compare directories, display folder sizes, synchronize folders and more. The program can also open/create ZIP and CAB files, and open RAR files, as well as search inside those archives. You can set view filters, create folder list (for printing), change file attributes, launch a command prompt, take a desktop screenshot and more.

AptDiff enables you to visually compare text and binary files. You can view the color-coded differences in two files side-by-side, and optionally merge lines from the left to the right or vice versa. The program can also export the side-by-side comparison to a nicely formatted HTML page for publishing on the web. Other features include file backup, customizable color coding, full Unicode support and more.

Easy Duplicate File Finder can help you to find and delete duplicate files. The program scans selected folders or drives and produces a list of all files that have the exact same content. You can then choose to delete all of them or only selected files. Other features include exclusion of system files and folders,as well as filtering by file mask and size.

CarbonFolder enables you to synchronize files between two folders on your local PC or network. You can create and save multiple projects, choose between unidirectional or bidirectional synchronization, and also exclude/include files by mask. The program offers an easy to use step-by-step interface.

Anti-Twin is a simple tool that helps you find and delete duplicate files on your hard drive. You can scan an entire folder structure or scan for duplicates in two selected folders. The results are presented as a list of file names and you can choose to delete the duplicates. The program lacks documentation and the list of duplicates does not show the file details or date, making it difficult to decide which file to delete.

NexusFile is a dual-pane file manager that offers fast, color coded file management with many advanced features. You can easily copy or move files between folders, quickly navigate to favorite folders, change file and folder attributes, perform advanced renaming operations, manage archives and much more. The program offers a modern interface with customizable color schemes for file types, transparency support and custom view styles. In addition to traditional file management, NexusFile offers FTP transfers, folder comparison and synchronization, file splitting and joining, disk cleanup, file shredding, extended keyboard shortcuts and more.

Attribute Changer allows you to easily change attributes for single or multiple files and folders. Possible changes include Read-only, Hidden, System, Archive, Compress, Index as well as file/folder dates. If you need to change attributes on multiple files, you can use the provided filter options to limit the process by date, time, size and other attributes. Attribute Changer integrates into the Windows Explorer right-click menu, and the interface is available by clicking on Change Attributes.

SurF is a unique file manager that offers tree organized tabs, allowing you to work with multiple folders simultaneously and easily switch between them. It offers customizable view settings and quick access to standard file management features such as delete, copy, rename and others. You can also access all regular Explorer options via the standard right-click menu. Other features include real-time highlighting of changed files (briefly, for one second), support for advanced NTFS capabilities and symbolic links, network support, keyboard navigation and more.

Visual Subst enables you to create virtual drives letters from any existing folder, allowing you to shorten the path to access the files by simply accessing the them via the newly created drive letter. For example, a long path like `C:Documents and SettingsUserMy Photosamily Album` could be easily accessed via the drive letter P:, acting as a shortcut to the actual folder. The virtual drive letters act just like any other drive letter and are accessible from all applications. Visual Subst is not only useful for convenient access, but can also become handy for developers who need to work with (script) files from another computer that use different drive letter paths in their configuration.

UltraExplorer is a Windows Explorer alternative that provides a customizable interface and additional features. You can group the file display by name, type, date or other aspects or navigate in column mode in addition to the standard view modes. You can also browse folders in tabs, filter folder content, quickly access recently used folders, maintain a list of favorites, and more. UltraExplorer also offers convenient ways to copy file names or folder paths, view folder sizes and Drop Stack to collect files from multiple locations.

File Deletion Utility is a simple utility that allows you to deleted files from a specific directory, based on their Creation Date or Modified Date. The files are deleted immediately and not sent to the recycle bin. Useful for cleaning up file archives or other mass delete operations.

WinMerge is a visual text comparison application, that allows you to see the highlighted differences between 2 text based files. It is in particular useful for comparing source codes, and offers optional support for Visual SourceSafe syntax highlighting, customizable highlight colors and more. The program allows you to go through all found differences and then merge each instance by either replacing them on the right or the left side.

FolderViewer is a Windows Explorer replacement that can be used to browse folder content, print, preview, (un)pack and organize MS Office documents, MP3 files, Photos and much more. The program integrates with IE and provides a built in browser as well as a text editor with syntax coloring, image viewer, media player, and more

ExamDiff is a tool for visual file comparison of two text or html files. After selecting the two files to compare, ExamDiff will display them in a split screen and highlight all the differences The program offers a variety of handy features, like copying of text from the comparison panes via drag and drop and one push re-compare function which attempts to leave the viewer s focus in the same place as before the re-compare. ExamDiff can also remember a user specified number of last compared first and second files and saves the file differences in a standard UNIX DIFF file. The interface is clean,compact and there are several options to customize the comparison process, for example by ignoring white spaces and more.

CubicExplorer is a file manager with a tabbed interface and integrated search functionality. You can quickly access your favorite folders by creating custom categories with shortcuts to selected folders. The program offers a clean and easy to use interface, but other than the tabbed display, there aren`t many features that set it apart from the standard Windows Explorer.

Handy File Tool is a dual pane file manager that allows you to open two folders or drives simultaneously. It offers a file basket that you can use to collect files from different locations into a basket drive, and then process batch process them. The program supports common file operations (copy, move, delete) and also includes a file renaming tool and a text search/replace tool. While the basket feature is handy, the rest of the functionalities are below average. Handy File Tool also nags you with a splash screen that advertises other products by the author every time you close the program.

Mass Directory Eraser is a simple tool that enables you to quickly delete a large number of files and folders. If you have ever deleted a large folder structure with thousands of files, you probably noticed that it can take quite some time for Windows to complete this procedure. Mass Directory Eraser can do the same in about 2 seconds. Careful though, the files are not sent to the recycle bin.

Duplicate Cleaner is an easy-to-use program that helps you to find and remove duplicate files on your computer. You can search multiple folder structures at once, and set criteria that identify the duplicates. You can choose to search for exact matches using CRC comparison or use the file name, size and date as criteria. The program offers extended support for music files, allowing you to use the ID tag information (artist, title, album) to identify duplicate tracks. The results are grouped in a list and a selection assistant enables you to quickly select files based on age, audio quality, location and other aspects.

Copy All To One enables you to copy (or move) all the files from a folder structure to a new folder, thereby eliminating all subfolders. The result is a single folder that contains all the files. You can choose to delete all the files from the source folder and also limit copying to a certain file extension.

MiTeC DirList is a simple, but fast loading file browser that allows you to browse all connected disks and generate reports for files and directories. The reports can be exported to HTML or CSV format or sent to your printer. You can optionally filter the list by extension and keyword contained in the file name, and also choose to include sub-directories. Standalone program, no install needed.

AutoCAD Version Explorer (AVE) enables you to browse folders that contain AutoCAD files and view thumbnail previews along with version information and other file properties. It can also export the thumbnails and file details to a HTML page with customizable column layout, zip files into an archive, and optionally integrated with Windows Explorer for convenient folder browsing from the right click menu. Standalone, no install needed.

SetFileDate enables you to easily change the Created, Modified and/or Accessed date and time of one or more selected files. The additional folder mode allows you to change the dates for entire folder with subfolders at once, optionally limiting the change to certain file extension and name.

Aurionix FileUsage is a Windows Explorer add-on that adds 3 additional info columns to the Detail View. The extra columns display the total size of all files and subfolders within a given folder, the total percentage disk usage as well as the total number of files within a given folder. (You will need to restart your computer and add the new columns to the Detail View).

RoteBetaSoftware Folder Size is a simple tool that display the size of folders (and sub-folders) as bar charts. The chart display is interactive, and you can click on a bar to create an overview for the underlying folder structure, and also filter the display by file types. Does not require installation and is easy to use.

File Commander helps you save time when organizing the files on your disk. If you find that you re moving, copying, or deleting the same files over and over, you can use it to create a simple command that does it for you with a single click. Just use the File Command interface (right click and select New Command) and specify the actions to take place (e.g move all images from this folder to the Img folder) and the next time you want to perform the action, all you have to do is click on the newly create command link in the folder. File commander supports copy, move and delete operations; it can process files by wildcard, confirm actions and automatically rename duplicates.

Folder Size is a handy shell extension that adds a `Folder Size` column to the Windows Explorer which displays - you guessed correctly - the total size of the folder in the details view. You can sort the column just like any other column, and use it to replace the standard File Size column since it also displays the size of individual files. A simple enhancement that should have probably come with Windows from the start.

ActualDoc Standard is a unique tool that allows you to manage your recently used documents and files. The standard Windows Recent Documents feature only shows a list of the last X files accessed, while this program allows you to keep long-term track of them and it automatically categorizes them by file type, date and other aspects. This allows you for example to easily find all PDF files that you accessed on a particular day, two weeks ago. IN addition, the program provides a comprehensive right-click menu for every entry, that allows you to open or explore the file, copy the path or the file and more. ActualDoc Lite also comes with a preview feature, however the Lite version only provides plain text preview, while the full version supports image and Office documents preview as well.

Alpha Systems Viewer is a bare bones text viewer that is designed to quickly open very large files in either text or HEX format. It supports DOS and UNIX type lines and includes a search feature as well as an option to save any segment of the source file to a new text file. Since the program opens the file in the background, you will not have to wait for the entire file to load, but can start looking through the content while the rest is still loading.
