Disk Cataloging

Cathy is a disk cataloging tool, that you can use to index files stored on removable media (CD-ROMs, LS120, Iomega Zip and Jaz disks, or even diskettes) and create searchable catalogs that can be used without having to insert the CD. Searching capabilities are based on file name, date and size and special support for mp3 file searches. Additional features include filtering options, duplicate search The program is easy to use, allows searching across multiple catalogs in a matter of seconds. Standalone, no install needed.

Visual CD is a disk cataloging tool to index data CDs, floppy disks, hard drives and even folders. Once indexed, you can explore the CD catalogs, search files and folders without having the physical disk in the drive. A built-in favorites manager allows you to easily manage multiple catalogs, and a powerful search feature lets you search across multiple catalogs. The program comes with several additional options, you can split files into smaller pieces, extract ZIP, RAR and CAB archives, rename files, copy the entire CD to a new location and more. It can also generate and index thumbnail images of photos and video file for visual reference.

Gentibus CD enables you to scan your photo CDs or removable drives and store thumbnail images of the pictures on your PC. This allows you to search for files (pictures) without the need for inserting the actual CD. The program can optionally extract meta data contained in audio files, internet files, text files and digital images. InsideCAT is a disk cataloging program for CD-ROMs, Audio CDs, floppies, ZipDisks etc. It offers support for compressed files (ZIP, RAR, CAB, ACE, JAR, ARJ, LZH, LHA, ARC, ZOO, PAK, TAR, GZIP, EXE) and 22 formats of media files. It can index the content of your drive or media for offline searching. Once indexed, you can search the media without having to insert the physical disk. The program offers simple text search, as well as advanced search with support for wildcards, regular expressions, attribute search, printing, export and more.

LS MyLib enables you to create indexes of your disks (CD, DVD, hard disks etc.) that allow you to locate files without having to insert the physical media disk. It offers advanced search options that let you search by part of the name, date, file type, size and more. The program can process ID3 tags and automatically use them as description for MP3 files, and you can also add your personal comments to any file. Additional features include an option to keep track of borrowed disks, customizable interface, HTML export and more.

Disclib is program to organize and catalog your CD collection. It indexes your removable media and creates a searchable catalog, that allows you to search for files on the CDs without having to insert them into the drive. You can also add local folders and index them for faster searching. disclib supports custom categories, mp3 tag information and more.

CatFish is a disk cataloging utility, that allows you to save snapshots of all your disks and removable media (ZIP disks, CDROMs) for searching and viewing (without having to insert the CD). You can quickly find files in all catalogs by name (with wildcards), size, and/or date and view all total file and subdirectory counts as well as total space usage. The save catalogs can be exported as text files. Catfish performs very fast and the resulting catalogs are very small in size. The catalogs are saved in the Windows Temp directory by default - it lacks an option to specify a custom location.

cdTree is a media cataloging tool, that will let you catalog and categorize CDs, CDRs, CDRWs, Hard Disk directories, Floppies, Zip Drives, DVDs and Audio CDs for offline browsing and searching. You can optionally add notes and user-configurable fields for any of the objects in the catalog. cdTree also enables you to password protect a specific catalog file, create custom categories, search the catalog content, view CD statistics and more. Additional features include sprint support, backups, custom fonts and icons. This version is free to keep. Several additional features are offered in a Pro version, which it frequently nags you to upgrade to.

Cdrom List Creator is a simple CD indexer, that can save and print directories and files names (on a CD or in Explorer), and store them in a searchable text file, allowing you to locate files, even if the CD is not inserted. The program provides an interface to search, view and organize your CD indexes.
