Command Line Tools

NT Toolkit is a great time saver for NT/2000 administrators, especially when it comes to password administration. It includes 3 commandline utilities and a GUI version of Password Assistant. The tools include ServiceSecure, LogOffDelay, PasswordUpdater, Password Assistant (GUI),Hardlink Shell Extension, WakeOnLAN, CheckTCP and several others. ServiceSecure is a tool to automatically change the password WinNT/Win2k service accounts are configured for. Service accounts either use the LocalSystem account as their security context, or are configured to run under a specific user in which case the user s password is stored in the Service Account Manager s database. LogoffDelay lets you log off a user not only immediately but also after a given amount of time. Additionally it detaches from the console and is invisible to the user. PasswordUpdater lets you update any users password on as many machines as you would like. The computer names can be extracted from the network neighborhood (with a filter option) or from a text file. In addition, the package includes GetHTTP (command line downloader), FileRelace, and a NetSend GUI.

XXCOPY is a command line file management solution, that provides a logical extension to XCOPY and adds many innovative features including file removal as well as search and list. It can preserver short-names during the copy process, making it ideal to clone a system disk which can be made bootable. Furthermore, XXCOPY can be used to synchronize files, create directory structures, perform incremental backups and much more.

PsTools is a set of commandline utilities that allow you to manage local and remote systems. The package includes the following tools: PsExec - execute processes remotely; PsFile - shows files opened remotely PsGetSid - display the SID of a computer or a user; PsKill - kill processes by name or process ID; PsInfo - list information about a system; PsList - list detailed information about processes; PsLoggedOn - see who s logged on locally and via resource sharing (full source is included); PsLogList - dump event log records; PsService - view and control services; PsShutdown - shuts down and optionally reboots a computer; PsSuspend - suspends processes; PsUptime - shows you how long a system has been running since its last reboot. The tools do not require additional client software and come bundled in a zip file, each one can be used standalone. A valuable collection, similar to some Resource Kit utilities, great for server admins!

Blat is a Public Domain Windows console utility that sends the contents of a file in an e-mail message using the SMTP protocol. Blat is useful for creating scripts where mail has to be sent automatically (CGI, backups, etc.), or just as a quick way to send a file or message quickly from the command line. It will store relevant configuration details in the registry for ease of use. Optionally, blat can also attach multiple binary files to your message and comes with a variety of different switches including HTML format, subject line, bcc, return receipt and many others.

XmlSendmail is a command-line utility that enables you to send messages, using an XML config file. You can send single or multiple messages, depending on your configuration. The program supports SMTP authentication, as well as (multiple) file attachments. The message content can be integrated into the XML statement, or called via external text file.

SlickRun is a floating command launcher utility ,that provides you with almost instant access to any program on your computer. It allows you to create command aliases (Magic Words), that , when typed, will launch the associated program, file or website. You can use it as a replacement for the RUN command, and define your own `Magic Words` to check your mail, launch a web search, lock or reboot your PC and more.

Sarch is a command executor that allows you to insert time and date values into the actual execution string. For example, you could use it to set up an automated process to compress your server's log files into a subdirectory hierarchy each week or so. Just set up a batch file, make a few calls to Sarch and add it to the task scheduler...

NDIR is a full-featured, color directory lister. It is a complete replacement for the DOS DIR command, with many additional features. It supports long filenames under FAT16, FAT32, NTFS and up to 200 different file-extension color settings. Powerful directory-tree display shows sizes of individual directories, as well as cumulative sizes of all subdirectories. Directory tree can be sorted by filename or directory size. In addition, you can apply several filters, show disk-drive summary as well as hidden files and more.

The Command Prompt Explorer Bar is a handy Windows Explorer add-on for power-users that frequently work with the command prompt. You can specify the source and target directories, the number of files to leave in the source directory or choose to move older or newer files first.

NirCmd is a multi-purpose command-line utility that offers a wide variety of functions ranging from deleting files and registry keys, writing values to a file, deploying desktop shortcuts across a network to changing display settings, rebooting your computer and much more. You can also append text from the clipboard to a file, hide the Start button, change file dates, adjust the volume, turn of your monitor and perform dozens of other small tasks by calling them from the command-line or a batch file.

QuickLZ is a high speed data compressor that uses a proprietary compression format, which is completely I/O bound and compresses files much faster than other algorithms. The compression ratio is worse, resulting in larger archive files, but if speed is more important to you than storage size, you should give it a try.

This small utility accepts 2 command line parameters, the first is the full path to the file you would like to execute. The second parameter is the delay time, in seconds. There is no user interface to the program, it is ran from the command line and is completely hidden. DelayExec could be useful if you want something to wait before executing, such as on Windows startup or in a network login script.

Sound Capture is a command line MP3 audio recorder, that can capture anything your sound card is playing straight to MP3 file. The parameters allow you to specify time limits, ID3 tag title, bitrate settings and more.

Cli Web Search is a command-line tool that enables you to launch a web search in your default web browser. It supports several major search engines including Google, Yahoo, Ask Jeeves, Wikipedia and others. Can come handy if used from a batch file or via command-line from other applications.

iOpus File and Web Page Downloader is a commandline web page and file downloader. It can be used with Windows task Manager or from within scripts and batch files to automate or schedule web page downloads. The syntax is very simple, just call the EXE file with the get and save parameters.

Mirror is a simple commandline tool to mirror two directories with sub-structures. It will only copy the files that are newer and delete all files in the mirror that are no longer present in the source. Very easy to use, good for simple backups or laptop synchronization.

Batch Icon Extractor is a simple tool that allows you to extract icon files (.ico) from a given file or directory path. In addition to command-line operation, you can also drag the folder or file onto the program icon to automatically start the extraction. Supports compressed Windows Vista icons.

QRes is a command line utility that lets you change your screen resolution, color depth and refresh rate settings.

CommandBurner is a simple CD/DVD burning utility that offers burn functionality via the command-line for integration with other programs, scripts and batch files. It also offers a simple user interface as alternative to the command-line usage. You can choose to burn either a single file or an entire folder.

Berkes Notify allows you to monitor a specified directory and be notified if files are changed, added or deleted. The program runs from the command line and pops up a small dialog if changes are detected. Small simple and useful.

IFErase is a simple, command-line driven clean-up utility, that can be used in batch files, logon scripts, Task Manager and many other uses. It clears the current users history, browser cache and cookies and you can also limit it by using command line switches (see included Readme file for details).

BatchMute is a very simple tool that lets you mute or un-mute all system sounds from a batch file or command line. Even though very simple, it can be quite useful to create one-click shortcuts or to mute sounds during certain time periods (e.g at night) by using Task Scheduler to launch BatchMute via command-line. Examples for command-line usage are included.

CapsLock allows you to turn on or off your CAPS lock key on your keyboard. There is no user interface to this program, just execute it and it will perform the task. You can add this utility to your Windows Startup to ensure the CAPS lock key is on. Use the command line options to either turn the key on or off. The program will only turn it off or on once - it does not disable the CapsLock completely.

Contig is a command-line defragmenter that can be used to defragment an existing file, or to create a new file of a specified size and name, optimizing its placement on disk. It is designed to target specific files or folders that are not properly defragmented during full defragmentation. Contig uses the native Windows defragmenter.
