File Encryption Tools

Cryptainer LE enables you to create a secure container on your PC, using powerful 128 bit strong encryption - without changing the way you work. The software creates new virtual drive letter(s), and all files that are added to this drive are encrypted on-the-fly. You can also create a secure storage container on any media including external and removable drives (e.g. USB drives, CD etc). The drive letter is accessible through Windows Explorer just like any other drive - as long as you are logged into the Cryptainer PE interface. If the program is terminated, the files in the secure drive are no longer accessible to other users - you can access them at any time by logging in with your password. Using this method, you can automatically keep a secure area, that can only be accessed by you, without having to encrypt individual files manually - just login once. In addition, Cryptainer LE allows you to send files with encrypted email messages, using self-decrypting EXE attachments that do not require any software to be installed by the recipient. The free version is limited to a container size of 25 mb, however you can create an unlimited number of such 25 mb containers.

AxCrypt is a powerful, yet extremely easy to use file encryption program. It integrates directly with Windows Explorer, enabling encryption, decryption, viewing and editing of any file with just a few clicks of the mouse. AxCrypt uses the AES-128 and SHA-1 algorithms, which comply with US Government and Internet standards. Additional features include creation of self-decrypting files, automatic re-encryption after editing, secure deletion (wiping) of files and temporaries, cryptographic data integrity validation, separate key and data encrypting keys, secure internal memory handler and more. AxCrypt uses a straight forward one-click way to process files. There is no additional interface to configure or open, other than selecting/entering your password.

Omziff is a standalone encryption and security utility, that allows you to encrypt/decrypt a file, using several well known encryption algorithms, including Blowfish, Cast128, Gost, IDEA, Misty1, Rijndael, and Twofish. The program also includes a password generator, a file shredder, file splitter and several other small tools. Omziff is a standalone executable and can also be used from an USB drive or similar portable media.

Secure Notepad is a Notepad replacement that is (almost) identical to the original, but offers several additional security features. In addition to saving files with the standard .txt extension, you can choose the .etxt format, which allows you to encrypt your file with a password and additional key file. Furthermore, the program includes a handy fade-out feature that automatically fades the content of a text file to plain white if the Notepad window is not active.

Androsa FileProtector enables you to encrypt and password protect any type of file, including documents, images, videos etc. The program offers a choice of 3 encryption algorithms, AES 256/192/128 bit, TripleDES 192 bit and DES 64 bit and converts the protected file into a .AFP file. Once protected, the file can only be opened with the proper password. Androsa FileProtector integrates with Windows Explorer for convenient access from the right-click menu, and also provides a drag and drop interface to batch encrypt/decrypt multiple files. Other features include password strength indicator, file compression and more.

MAXA Text2Exe enables you to save text as an encryoted EXE file. The file is self-decrypting and can be unlocked with the proper password - no need to install any additional decryption software. The program uses a 256 Bit AES encryption algorithm to protect your data. Standalone software, can be used from a USB drive.

File Waster allows you to protect your files from prying eyes, using secure encryption technology. You can encrypt files or folders, combine them into secure cabinets and optionally compress them before encrypting. FileBuddy also includes secure file deletion, allowing you to wipe your files beyond recovery, using different security levels, including DoD 5220.22.M and up.

TrueCrypt is an open-source encryption software that enables you to create a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mount it as a virtual disk, that can be accessed via a drive letter. Any file that is stored on this virtual drive is automatically encrypted on-the-fly, and can only be accessed while the drive is mounted with the correct password or key. TrueCrypt supports a variety of encryption algorithms, including AES-256, Blowfish (448-bit key), CAST5, Serpent, Triple DES, and Twofish. Other features include support for FAT32 or NTFS formatting, hidden volumes, hotkeys for mounting/dismounting and more.

Encrypt Files is a file encryption utility that enables you to encrypt the content of file, using a variety of secure algorithms including Blowfish, AES, Twofish, RC6 and others. Simply select the files from the integrated file browser and encrypt them, with the algorithm of your choice. The program does not change the extension or name of the file but highlights encrypted files in the file browser, so they can be identified later. Encrypt Files also includes a file shredder to permanently delete sensitive files.

Mince is an easy to use and very reliable text encryption tool. Right-click a text file, select Mince-encrypt, enter a password and your file will be secure from unwanted prying eyes. Double-click to decrypt. Accessible from the Windows Explorer right click menu.

EncryptOnClick is a simple encryption/decryption tool, that uses military grade 256-bit AES encryption which is fully compatible with WinZip 9. It encrypts selected files or folders and compresses them at the same time. The encrypted file can be decrypted by EncryptOnClick, as well as anyone that uses WinZip 9 and has the proper password.

PixelCryptor is an encryption program that enables you to create encrypted archives containing one or more files, and protect the content without the need to remember any password. Instead of a password or key, the program uses an image file (any image) and generates a checksum from it, which acts as your key to lock and unlock the files in the archive. If you share the archive by email (or other means) , the receiver needs to have a copy of the PixelCryptor software installed, as well as an exact duplicate of the image you used to encrypt the archive. To unlock an encrypted file, simply select the proper image when prompted and the content will be revealed. While this may sound very convenient, you should be aware that the slightest change to the original image (e.g editing, renaming), or loss of the image will leave your encrypted data inaccessible. miniTrezor enables you to create password protected containers that you can use to store your sensitive files, using 256-bit AES encryption. You can create the container anywhere on your hard drive (or a USB drive), and also choose to have the program create up to 2 copies that can be stored in other locations for backup reasons. To add files to a container, you can simply drag and drop them into the interface and further organize them by creating virtual folders within the container. If you want to access your files, you must start miniTrezor and enter the correct password. The files however can only be accessed from within miniTrezor, they cannot be opened from Windows Explorer.

LockNote is a portable memo pad that enables you to store text information, using 256-bit AES encryption. You can type any text you want, e.g your bank account information, website passwords, social security number etc. and then simply close LockNote, at which time you will be prompted to set a password. Subsequent access to LockNote requires the correct password. The program is portable and does not require an installation. You can simply copy the locked file to a USB stick, iPod or other portable device (or send it by email) and unlock it on any PC. The idea behind LockNote is not to provide a full featured data storage, but a simple, secure and portable way to store any kind of text information. If you want to organize your data, you can create multiple copies of LockNote and rename them to identify the data they contain (e.g Personal.exe, Bank.exe).

Zero Footprint Crypt can encrypt your files using any of 6 supported algorithms (Blowfish, Twofish, 3DES, RC4, Serpent and Rijndael). It comes with a built-in viewer for images, movies, sound and support for MP3 tags. The program offers a unique way to view encrypted image files without decrypting them to a file, but to memory instead. In addition to encrypting your files, you can also wipe them from your disk, using multiple overwrites and perform some basic image editing. Uses Blowfish encryption. Great if used primarily for image encryption.

CryptMage is an easy to use file encryption tool that uses a proprietary algorithm to secure your files from preying eyes. Just select the password, the file to encrypt and you re done. Very simplistic, but effective.

bmpPacker is an encrypting-/decrypting tool, that camouflages the encrypted file inside a Windows Bitmap (.bmp). You can select any file (documents, image etc.) and the program will generate a fully compatible BMP container file that contains the encrypted file. The BMP image is fully windows compatible, but only displays a bunch of noise when opened - to decrypt and extract the contained file, you need to open the BMP file with bmpPacker and supply the proper password, which will then decrypt/extract the contained file. The program supports Blowfish, Twofish and Rijndael algorithms for secure encryption.

Kryptel Lite is a free version of Kryptel. While it lacks some advanced Kryptel features, it is a fast and easy-to-use program, which will perfectly suit your needs if your security demands are not very high. It supports drag-and-drop operation and integrates to the Windows Explorer right-click menu. Kryptel Lite uses industry-standard DES cipher for encryption and includes a single-pass file shredder for secure file deletion.

SecExFile provides easy to use and secure file encryption from the Windows Explorer right-click menu. It can also automatically attach the encrypted file to an email messages, using your default email program. SecExFile Home uses Strong 128/384 bit SecExMail cipher, incorporating 256 bit Twofish. You can encrypt single or multiple files or entire folders.

Crunch is a personal 128 bit encryption tool that can encrypt (crunch) selected files or entire folders. Folders can be packaged into compressed files, or encrypted in a new sub-folder. Either option allows you to specify a key (password) that must be entered in order to decrunch (decrypt) the files. The program allows you to select files from its interface, and also integrates into the Windows Explorer right click menu.

PowerCrypt is a powerful file encoder. Make sure your files are protected with a 100% secure encryption algorithm, which is not resolveable by NSA nor CIA. You can encode multiple files at a time, manage your archives and compress data for a better disk space usage. The program can also be used to send encrypted email attachments and more. PowerCrypt offers maximum security, easy usage, fast encryption.

Crypto-Lock is a File Protector that allows you to restrict access to your executable files (programs) and other type of files as well. The program uses the SHA-1 and Blowfish algorithms and can produce either self-decrypting files or encrypted modules. You can optionally select to create a backup copy of the original file.

HIT Mail Privacy LITE allows you to hide a message within a picture. It supports most popular image formats (JPG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, etc) for picture input. Files can be saved in BMP format, HIT archive or BMP in a zip file. Since the program can only save to BMP file, the resulting files are usually very large - several megabytes in size, which limits the usability for email or other communication use.

SiFEU is a program that lets you encrypt files with strong Blowfish encryption and SHA-1 for calculating the hash sum of the password. The interface allows you to add one or multiple files to encrypt and you can also use it from the right-click menu in Windows Explorer. The encrypted files will have an additional .SiFEU extension and require SiFEU to be installed in order to open/decrypt them.

Iron Key allows you to encrypt files from the Windows Explorer right-click menu, and create a self-decrypting EXE file, that can be sent via email and does not require the receiver to install any decryption software. Iron Key uses DES encryption.
