Remote Computing

BrowseAmp allows you to remote control WinAmp from your web bowser. It offers a wide range of control options, including browsing for tracks, playlists, volume control and all standard playback functions. You can access the remote interface from anywhere on the network or even the Internet, however this can also be restricted to specified IP ranges and users. You can create user accounts and assign individual privileges and access rights to each user, giving him/her full or restricted access to the control functions. BrowseAmp works as a plug-in for WinAmp and is easy to use/install. Additional features include web skin options, optional file uploads, cover display (current song), shutdown/reboot options and more.

TightVNC is an enhanced version of VNC, which is optimized to work over slow network connections such as low-speed modem links. It allows you to access your computer desktop remotely via a client program or with a web browser, using the built in HTTP server. While original VNC can be very slow when your connection is not fast enough, TightVNC allows you to work remotely almost in real time in most environments. Besides bandwidth optimizations, TightVNC also includes many other improvements, optimizations and bugfixes over the original VNC. TightVNC is compatible with the standard VNC.

RealVNC (Free Edition) is a remote display system which allows you to view a computing desktop environment not only on the machine where it is running, but from anywhere on the Internet and from a wide variety of machine architectures. You can run programs, open desktop applications, folders and do just about anything you could do while sitting in front of it. It offers password protection, a Java based web interface, IP access restrictions and more.

WinRemotePC Lite enables you to control a desktop remotely over the LAN or Internet. You can control the remote PC with your mouse and desktop, just as if sitting in front of it. The program comes with a client and a server module, and includes its own video driver for fast display performance that provides almost real-time control and offers an optional full-screen mode. WinRemotePC Lite also supports sending of special keyboard keys and the Ctrl+Alt+Del sequence. Other features include IP filtering, a tabbed interface to manage multiple desktops and integration with Windows login security. WinRemotePC Lite is free for non-business use.

VNC Navigator enables you to manage up to 3 VNC servers from a simple control interface, that allows you to quickly connect to a selected server by simply double-clcking on the entry. It can save your password (encrypted) and also connection preferences for each server. VNC Navigator supports TightVNC, RealVNC, and UltraVNC. The free version is limited to 3 servers, if you need support for more servers you can purchase a license.

Crossloop is an easy to use utility that enables you to share your desktop screen with a remote computer. Unlike most other remote computing tools, Crossloop is focused on ease-of-use for non-technical users. A simple interface allows you to start a sharing session with a friend who also has Crossloop installed. For security reasons, the program uses 128-bit encryption and generates a random 12-digit key, that you must transmit to the person (by email, phone, instant message or similar means) before they can connect your computer. Once you have started the server and your friend has entered the key, you will receive a request, allowing you to share your screen and control your desktop. Crossloop integrates TightVNC.

ShowMyPC combines VNC remote access technology with an open-source SSH forwarding client to provide you with the option to allow other users to view and control your desktop. The remote user needs to download the standalone ShowMyPC application and can access your computer with just a password (no IP address needed). The temporary session password is automatically generated when you start the viewing session and must be provided to the remote user by email, phone or other means. If you have access to your own SSH server, you can use it instead of the one provided.

Remote Exec is a simple tool that can be used to launch non-interactive applications on a remote computer. It requires proper logon credentials, as well as WMI on the remote machine. In addition, it can also be used to remotely shut down or reboot a computer. The program also supports command line parameters, allowing you to call it from a batch file.

WallCooler is a VPN (Virtual Private Network) solution that enables you to access your home computer from anywhere, using a secure Internet connection. Once you have installed WallCooler on the machine you want to access and created a free account with the service, you can access your files, emails, applications and network resources while you are on the road or in the office. The program directly connect to remote resources or servers by DNS/Netbios name or IP address without the need to configure your router or firewall. WallCooler uses industry standard SSL encryption and authentication to protect your VPN connection and utilizes compression for fast throughput.
