Hitware Popup Killer Lite
Hitware Popup Killer Lite is an intelligent popup killer for Internet Explorer (5 and up), that runs in the system tray and quietly eliminates most pop-up and pop-under ads before they appear. You can choose to be notified via animated tray icon or a sound whenever a popup window is closed, maintain a WhiteList of allowed sites, and also disable popup blocking from the tray, if needed. The program is very simple, without additional bells and whistles, however it performed well and closed just about all common popup windows during our test (www.popuptest.com). If you want no-fuss and fully automatic popup blocking, give it a try. This version is a Lite, because the author also offers a Pro version which offers additional features, besides the popup blocking.
PopOops
PopOops is a small and simple program that blocks all popup windows in Internet Explorer. It runs in the system tray and optionally plays a sound and/or shows a balloon tooltip every time a popup is blocked. You can bypass the popup killer and open a link in a new window by holding down the Control or Shift key. PopOops does not allow any further customization or exclusions, but simply closes *all* popup windows.
Message Subtract
Message Subtract allows you disable the Windows Messenger service, preventing advertising popups that are sent directly to your desktop, using your IP address. The interface simply provides a shortcut for to turn Messenger Service off. The same action can be performed by changing the Windows settings, however this tool is free and saves you a few mouse clicks. You can choose to stop the service, disable it or set it to manual. If you are not using a local network and receive legitimate LAN messages, you should choose disable.
Shoot The Messenger
Shoot The Messenger is a very simple tool that helps you get rid of annoying IP based Messenger popup ads (the ones that use the Windows NT/2000/XP Messenger service). These popups are unlike regular popups, since they abuse the Messenger Service, which is intended to send text messages across a network, using the computer`s IP address. They can appear as dialog box on your desktop if you have the Messenger Service enabled and are not using a firewall. Shoot The Messenger will display the current status of the Messenger Service and allows you to turn it off/on with a simple click, without having to go into the Windows configurations panel. The program does not need to be running after the service has been turned on or off. It can also be used from the command-line.
MyPopupKiller
MyPopupKiller is a hands-on popup killer that displays a list of all open windows titles and allows you to select the ones that should be considered popup windows and closed. You can set up a list of (partial) titles and domains, and use the automatic mode to close all popup windows that match your list. You can also use the aggressive mode, which will automatically close all popup windows (regardless of what they contain). In addition, MyPopupKiller can automatically hide the internal ads of Kazaa Media Desktop, Download Accelerator (DAP), and Opera browser. It also provides an option to disable the messenger service, which will eliminate any of those desktop message popups.
Pop-up Stopper Free
Pop-up Stopper Free is a simple pop-up blocker that works with Internet Explorer and Netscape. It automatically closes most pop-up windows as they appear and optionally notifies you from the system tray. The program does not work as smoothly as others, since you will still be able to see a quick flashing of the pop-up before it is closed.
Bayden PopupPopper
Bayden PopupPopper allows you to automatically get rid of annoying browser popup windows. It offers a convenient feature that allows you to control it via the Scroll Lock key on your keyboard. It can either block all popups while Scroll Lock is one, or prompt you for action while it is off. You can then choose to either block or allow a single or all popups from the current site. You can also setup a list of sites that will always be blocked or allowed. Easy to use, eliminated all popups in our test.
PopUp Eraser
PopUp Eraser is a tool to automatically close browser pop-up windows, and unlike similar programs, Popup Eraser doesn`t require that you add each popup window to a list as they occur. It uses the smart self-learning engine, which adds an items to the "Close It" and "Allow It" list automatically. It also logs visited pages and closed pop-up windows. PopUp Eraser works with Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape browsers.
KillAd
KillAd is a small and lightweight tool that allows you to kill annoying advertising popups in your browser. The program uses two different approaches - one by a kill list, the other by window size. KillAd supports Netscape, IE and Opera. The program runs in the tray, and can be quickly disabled/enabled as needed. A sound will (optionally) notify you each time a popup window has been destroyed and KillAd also provides long term statistics.
